parties, and more

Carnival dates back to the early 1700’s and is

the largest festival in the world

The main events are the parades from over

200 samba schools

There are also many blocos or bandas, smaller

parties that happen before, during, after Carnival

Blocos start at 7am and go on all day, some beginning at sunset

along Ipanema beach

Carnival is all about fun, free-spirited celebrations - often involving costumes

and elaborate props.
