What is a judge level? - L1

- Local judges

- Oversee local tournaments, run Regular

REL events, or work as a floor judge on

larger Competitive events

- Knowledge of Magic rules, DCI

tournament rules, structures, formats

- Mainly on retail

How do you get there? - L1

- Judged two events in six months

- L1 judge certification exam

- Written recommendation by L2+

- Experience as a player

What is NOT required? – L1

- Working at Competitive REL

- Knowledge of the MIPG

- Passing practice exams

- Writing Judge Center reviews

What is a judge level? - L2

- Area judges

- See tournaments to a higher standard

- Travel, train and mentor other judges

- Knowledge of Competitive REL policy

- Work on Grand Prix and WMCQs

- Test L1 judges

How do you get there? - L2

Pretest Requirements (previous 15 months)

- Written recommendation by L2+

- Working with at least two stores

- Judge six events and three “high-level” events with

multiple judges (PPTQ, PTQ, WMCQ, GP...)

- Tournament report of a “high-level” event

- L2 practice exam with a 70%+ score

- Written three reviews (constructive feedback)

How do you get there? - L2

Certification Requirements

- Pass the L2 exam (>80%)

- Willingness to mentor and certify other judges

- Diplomacy with players, judges and TOs

-Participate in regional judge community

- Candidate must know how to: 1) deck check

2) do a certification review 3) do a DQ report

- Regional Judges

- Leaders of organized play and communities

- Operate in large areas

- Mentor L1s and L2s

- Expected to conduct judge reviews

- Team Lead at major events

- Provide feedback
