Donatellos David Recipe:

The lost wax Technique.1)Mold the shape out of clay. 2)Cover the clay in a thin layer of wax and add small details to the surface. 3)Attaching rods, or sprues at 90 degree angles to the wax surface to allow air and gasses to escape. 4)Insert Iron or bronze pins or chaplets into the wax and the core so that they stick out. 5)Add another layer of clay over the wax. 6)Bake the structure in order to melt the wax and create a mold. The chaplets hold the clay together when the wax melts 7)Fill the mold in between the two pieces of clay with dirt or sand, so that it is covered inside to prevent cracking. 8)Heat the mold as well as the metal which is 90 percent copper and 10 percent tin to 1350-1450 degrees Fahrenheit.9)Pour the metal into the mold where the wax was. 10)After the bronze has cooled down chip the outside clay off to reveal the bronze, and scrape the clay core out. 11)Smooth, chase, or finish the rough bronze.12)Apply patina to the chased surface to achieve the desired color.
