End of Term 1 Thursday 2nd April 2015 Board of Trustee Meeting Monday 30th March 2015 Parent/Student/ Teacher Conference Day Mon 30th March 2015 Tai Tokerau Festival Tue, Wed, 31st Mar, 1st Apr TERM 2 2015 Monday 20th April 2015 To Friday 3rd July 2015 TERM 3 2015 Monday 20th July 2015 To Friday 25th Sept 2015 TERM 4 2015 Monday 12th October 2015 To Friday 11th Dec 2015 DATES TO REMEMBER Our newsletter is printed and proudly sponsored by Late last year and then again very recently I sent out a notice and a survey seeking your support in opposing the shifting of our school’s decile rating from a Decile 1 to a Decile 2 school. We needed at least a 70% return from our post out to have any chance of a review by the Ministry of Education. Thank you to those parents/caregivers who have returned their surveys however you can imagine my disappointed in the 35% return rate even after a second post out to parents. We have done all that we could do as a school to alert our community to the pending loss of funding and the serious impact that this will have on our ability to provide for the needs of our students in literacy and numeracy. Attendance plus effort equals achievement, is the catch cry of our school. I am concerned about the number of students who do not appreciate the importance of regular attendance and have developed patterns of truancy. Our Attendance Officer Wehe Hancy has been worked off her feet visiting these families for us. Please ensure that your child does not take time off unless it is an emergency. Youth Worker in Secondary School ( YWiSS). I want to remind families that we have Ms Jane Hughson in the school who is available to work alongside you and your child in matters pertaining to their schooling. Please ensure that you have the 30 March marked on your calendar for our Parent, Student Teacher (PST) Conference. This is the first opportunity to discuss your child’s progress at school to date. John Paitai, Principal A Message from our Principal E nga iwi, e nga karangatan- ga maha, te iti me te rahi, tena koutou, tena tatou katoa. You may have noticed the events being posted on our roadside notice board constantly changing this term, an indication of the hive of activities our students have been engaged in. Alongside their regular classes some students are also attending North Tech Farming and Automotive Academy courses. Others have been placed in local industries through our Gateway work experience courses. In the sporting arena teams are representing our school in a wide variety of sports and on the cultural scene our Kapa Haka has been preparing for the Ahureka o Ngati Hine Festival where they performed last Friday and for the Tai Tokerau Secondary Schools Kapa Haka Festival to be held in Opononi 31 March to 2 April. Thank you for your support in all of these activities and especially for Athletics Day. I want to acknowledge those who have volunteered to coach teams, to be managers or drivers. Without your involvement we simply cannot provide these experiences for our students. Got Homework? Need to do some extra study?
