PRINCIPALS REPORT
End of Year Procedures Teachers will soon be considering grade models and the consequent placement of children for the next school year. This process is very involved and requires considerable amounts of staff discussion. Each student’s academic level, social circle and emotional development is taken into consideration prior to a placement being made. Due to the considerable amount of time and thought that goes into this task, last minute changes to grade placements are impossible to make – one change has a snow balling effect. The final lists are considered by all staff at a staff meeting prior to publication. As you can see we really do try to get ‘the mix’ just right! If your child will be moving from the area and, therefore not attending our school, I would appreciate it if I could be advised as soon as possible so they are not factored into grade lists.
Emergency Management Plans
As advised in last week’s newsletter, our school and OSHC Emergency Management Plans are currently being updated to ensure that they replicate any changes to current regulations. The plans will be tabled at School Council before being finally approved by DET. As we are in a high fire risk area we are asking that all parents provide updated mobile phone details to the office. A note will be sent home next week to enable you to do so. This will enable us to communicate directly with you through your mobile phone device in the event of an emergency.
Grade 3 and 4 Camp
Congratulations to every single student who attended the Phillip Island Adventure Camp this week. I have heard nothing but praise about everything that they did; their manners, attitude and behaviour were outstanding. They were even in bed and sound asleep early which meant that every adult also managed a good night’s sleep …… well except for Mr P. who apparently had to put up with Ross and Tim’s snoring all night!!!!
Cup Eve and Cup Day
The school will be closed for Cup Day next Tuesday. The day prior is traditionally always very quiet as many families take the opportunity to extend the weekend to a four day break. If you are travelling for an extended weekend break, please drive carefully and stay safe.
Our staff will be at school on Cup Eve and will be using the day as an opportunity for professional development. We will have a focus on decoding strategies used during reading and analysis of reading miscues and the pedagogy which underpins spelling. We will also have professional development in the use of our reporting package as an individual student tracking system. The day will be a long one with a 5PM planned finish. Relief teachers will be employed to provide the school program, as instructed by the class teacher, to the students who arrive on Monday.
Historically, low numbers attend on Cup Eve so, consequently, there will be no canteen operating on this day. Thanks to those who have already let us know that their child will not be attending school on Cup Eve.

I would like to thank our wonderful parents who arrive early one day a week to ensure our
children have full tummies before school.
I am in desperate need for more helpers to join our team in 2016, if you are interested in joining please leave your name and contact number and I will contact you. Gayle Morison ………………………………………………………………………………………………………
