DANCE ALLIANCE OF BECK CENTERHappy New Year! The dance department ended 2017 with a brand-new production called Making Spirits Bright; and it did just that, it made the holiday season bright and festive! There were over 70 dancers that performed in pieces ranging from ballet to jazz, tap and contemporary. They not only performed four times at Beck Center, they also performed two sensory shows, a tour of three nursing homes and the final performance was at the Cleveland Clinic. It was a busy December for us all! I would also like to thank the co-chairs for the event, Amy Dreger and Kate Wainwright, for all the hard work they put into this event; we have such a dedicated board and volunteer base!
Looking ahead…
The spring performance in March will bring back Fairy Doll to the Mackey Main stage. Rehearsals are in full swing so make sure not to miss out on this beautiful production! February brings our annual Valentine Day bake sale and in June we end the season with the dance showcases to see how much our dancers have grown over the past year.
Finally, this will be my last newsletter as president of DABC. It has truly been a pleasure serving on this board for the past five years. I have met and worked with so many wonderful people during my tenure that it will be a sad day for me when I turn it over to the new president, Michelle Ellis, in June. Thank you to all the DABC members, past and present, for helping me along the way; it has been a fun ride!
Carrie Brindza DABC President
P.S. Don’t forget these upcoming events!

STUDENT DANCE SHOWCASES
Our student dance showcases for 2018 will be held Friday, June 8 and Saturday, June 9 on the Mackey Mainstage. These showcases, held every other year allow our students the experience of dancing in a theatrical space for a large audience of family and friends. The showcase is designed to be an informal dance presentation. Students are to wear the required classroom dress code attire. No additional costuming or stage make-up is required. The Student Showcase and our Dance Concerts scheduled for spring of 2019 are integral components of dance education at Beck Center. Students are not required to perform, but participation is strongly encouraged.
More detailed information including times and ticketing information will be sent home with students in early March. Please watch for it!

THANK YOU!
A huge thank you to DABC (Dance Alliance of Beck Center) for their purchase of a new Harlequin dance floor and portable barres for the Music and Dance Building. Both purchases will be enjoyed by our dance students for many years to come! In addition the Dance Alliance underwrote funding for buses for the Making Spirits Bright community tour and Cleveland Clinic performances.
Many thanks to Great Lakes Youth Ballet. The non-profit 401c3 organization recently disbanded, and they graciously gifted us a large volume of their costume inventory! Their gift will be well utilized for upcoming student performances.
