WELCOME MESSAGE
ORGANIZING TEAM
Dear Colleagues,
We wish you the Season’s greetings.
The Ahmedabad Obstetrics and Gynaecological society under the aegis of FOGSI invites you to participate in the 'International congress on Critical Care in Obstetrics" at Ahmedabad, an emerging knowledge capital of India planned between 6 - 8 October, 2017.
As you well know, obstetric practice deals with potentially life threatening complications requiring an urgent critical care. This necessitates obstetric HDU/ICU care which would include continuous patient monitoring, invasive monitoring facilities, and specially trained manpower to address these special interventions to save critical mothers. ‘Critical care in Obstetrics’ has emerged as a speciality and a need of an hour in India. It has become more relevant now as Government of India has declared guidelines on establishment of obstetric HDU & ICU in March'2016, which are now sent to all the states for their implementation.
Looking to the importance of the topic and its demand, we are organising International congress on "Critical care in Obstetrics" on 6-8 October, 2017 at Ahmedabad, The previous conferences on critical care in obstetrics were highly appreciated by members of FOGSI & made a great impact.
We aim to bring the latest advances, dedicated to critical care in obstetric with many novel ideas like hands on training on skill stations, paper and e.posters on critical care in Obstetrics, virtual Labor room & Obst HDU/ICU set up, visit to an Obst ICU. We shall have checklist posters & distribution of a handbook on protocols in high risk pregnancy. This time we will be organising two very useful Pre congress workshops on "ABC of Critical care in Obstetric Units: Obstetric HDU/ICU" and "Imaging Science: Key role in High Risk Pregnancy Management" on 6th October, 2017.
We anticipate a very high attendance at these conference to the tune of 1000 colleagues. Your presence and active participation in making a difference in women's quality health care in India is highly valued. The organising team is eagerly waiting to welcome you to the most needed and focused international conference.
Warm personal regards,
Organising Team.

Gandhi Ashram : ”This is the right place for our activities to carry on the search for Truth and develop Fearlessness- for on one side, are the iron bolts of the foreigners, and on the other, thundervolts of Mother Nature”.- This is how Gandhiji described the site of Sabarmati Ashram when he first visited the place for assessing if it was suitable for carrying out his work. While at Sabarmati, Gandhiji lived in a small cottage which is now known as ‘Hridaya (Heart) Kunj’. It is a place of great historic value, where even today visitors find some of the things which Gandhiji used- a writing desk, a khadi kurta, a yarn spun by him and some of his letters.
Sabarmati River Front : Sabarmati Riverfront is a waterfront developed along banks of Sabarmati river in the city of Ahmedabad, India.
Heritage City : The 606-year-old walled city of Ahmedabad, which was founded by emperor Ahmed Shah, has become India’s first World Heritage City. The World Heritage Committee (WHC) of UNESCO announced it at Krakwo, Poland. “Thrilled to announce! Ahmedabad has just been declared India’s first #WorldHeritage city by @UNESCO,” tweeted Ruchira Kamboj, India’s permanent representative to UNESCO.“For over 600 years, Ahmedabad has stood for peace, as a landmark city where Mahatma Gandhi began India’s freedom struggle. It has stood for unity with its elegant carvings in its Hindu and Jain temples as well as standing as one of the finest examples of Indo-Islamic architecture and Hindu Muslim art. And beyond this, it epitomizes the United Nation’s objective of sustainable development as it accelerates in its development,” she said during Ahmedabad’s inscription.Spread over 5.43 sq km, the walled city of Ahmedabad was preferred over other cities during the nominations last year. With a population of 3.75 to 4 lakh, the city’s living heritage being the 600 odd ‘pols’ or neighbourhoods with clusters of centuries-old residences.“It started as a small step in 1996 when we started the heritage cell. Since then we have people dedicated to heritage management. We will now have to ensure that we perfectly maintain the 2,600 odd heritage sites in the city,” Municipal Commissioner of Ahmedabad Mukesh Kumar said.Jigna Desai, assistant professor at Cept University credited the status to Rabindra Vasavada, a retired professor of Cept University, who and his team took six years to put together the dossier for the walled city. Builder-turned-conservation expert Rajiv Patel, who has restored three havelis in the walled city, said, “This will give a boost to tourism. All the missing policies will fall in place to ensure that properties are restored and taken care of… We will have demarked areas in the city and problems like traffic will have to be resolved.”
Kankariya Lake : A polygonal lake almost a mile in circumference, it was constructed in 1451 by Sultan Qutb-ud-Din.It is a 34 sided polygon with a 1.25 km circuit and steps leading down to the water level. On the eastern side is an elaborately carved water inlet with three circular openings. This feature, common to several reservoirs in Gujarat, is a monument in its own right. In the center of the lake, on an artificial island, is the pleasure pavalion known as Naginavadi. The promenade around Kankaria is one of the few places in Ahmedabad to enjoy a walk without the fear of being hit by a vehicle. In the evening it fills with crowd, food stalls and informal entertainment. There is also a water and light show. A zoo, a natural history museum, a toy train, a special garden for children called Bal Vatika, and an open air theatre are placed around the lake.
