Implementation

Data Acquisition

Data Acquisition have included:Guidance information (student placement and behavioral records).

Student demographics.

Classroom grades.

Data on, and observation of, teacher personnel.

Community survey data.

Budgetary information.

Master schedule and calendar information.

Curricular information.

Technological capacity.

Data Reflection

we have come to define the phase schools generally move into after Data Acquisition as Data Reflection. In this phase:

stakeholders work to make sense of the data that has been collected in order to develop specific goals for improving teaching and learning.

Program Alignment , Program Design

We define Program Alignment as the process of taking conclusions from the Data Reflection phase and setting students up for success by making sure that state and local standards, school curriculum, classroom teaching, and all testing are focused on the same results.

Program Design to bridge the gaps that became evident in the process of pursuing Program Alignment by creating changes in :Classroom experience Student servicesAnd other parts of the school that they found to be out of line with the aims of school improvement.

Formative Feedback And Test Preparation

After base line data has been collected and examined, and once school improvement is under way, the next phase of model is Formative Feedback.

1. on-going evaluation

2. elevating teaching

3. learning to the next level The Test Preparation phase is where schools synthesize the knowledge and practices gained through use of a DDIS into improved student performance.

An Example

Unified Public Schools (which has 23,000 students, 45 percent of whom are eligible for free or reduced lunch) created a student information management system. The information system currently helps the district address two important issues:

1. It provides quick and tailored responses to building and staff requests for student information;

2. and it enables teachers to design classroom instruction that accounts for the needs of individual students on the basis of their reading, writing, and numeric proficiencies.

Educational Value

The district can monitor transience more efficiently and meet the needs of students who move among district schools within the year.

They provide a ID for each student. The ID tracks students through the school system. Each record contains student and parental background, coded as variables, as well as information about attendance, scheduling, grades, and disciplinary action.

At the classroom level, teachers have direct access to individual student data through student performance software.

The help of software consultants, the district ensures the informed use of student quantitative records by training teachers for the different assessments.

Case Study Question

1.Identify and describe the problem discussed in the case?

This case is all about the alarming school performances of students in United States because of their poorly structured educational system. So the use of Information System, specifically the use of data-driven decision support system helped the government and the school to increase the level of students performances.

2. How do data-driven DSS provide a solution to this problem? What are the inputs and outputs of the system?

Data-Driven DSSs include knowledge based systems. A properly designed DSS is an interactive software based system intended to help decision makers compile useful information from a combination of raw data, documents, personal knowledge, or business models to identify and solve problems and make decisions. Students’ exams, quizzes and or other forms of students’ evaluation serves as the input. DSS then provide computerized and systematic decisions about students’ performances and that will serve as the output of the system.

3.What people, organization, and technology issues must be addressed by this solution?

Policy decisions lay the groundwork for educational practice. Data driven policies can have a powerful impact on needs assessment and planning processes, professional development, resource allocation, and teacher evaluation. Schools that model effective data use determine overall school needs through data drawn from multiple sources. Student performance data are used to drive the school- and district-improvement planning process.

4.How successful is this solution? Explain your answer.

The solution went very good, so far. The 139,000-student district, one of the nation's largest, says the strategy has helped it nearly close an achievement gap between white and minority students in the early grades
