T racking the question of gendered belonging to the na- tion state, the article discusses the anthropological literature along with feminist and critical theory to shed light on the relation between re- production and death as a way of giving life to the nation-state. Sexual and reproductive violence are closely linked to the social and cultural imaginaries of order and disorder; and violence, far from being an in- terruption of the ordinary, is folded into the ordinary. 283 Click here for quick links to Annual Reviews content online, including: • Other articles in this volume • Top cited articles • Top downloaded articles • Our comprehensive search Further ANNUAL REVIEWS A n n u .
