Kreativität und Mark
5HEIMTEXTIL
Contract Business-Tag von Let‘s talk about it! am 15. Januar. (Halle 8.0) und Let’s have a look (Halle 3.1) hinweisen.
Wir danken Ihnen für das Gespräch, Herr Braun.
Mr Braun, the Heimtextil gates will already be opened for the 40th time in 2010. What constitutes the special character of the Heimtextil?
The Heimtextil is the largest international specialist trade fair for home and contract textiles. It is the most important marketing and order date in the sector. With its unique variety of offers which covers the entire product portfolio of clothing and home textiles it shows current innovations and consumer trends. The product show is accompanied by top-class spe-cial shows and workshops which specifically target both visitors and exhib-itors.
How does the Heimtextil reflect the current market situation? The year 2009 was also a major challenge for the textiles sector,
marked by the global crisis and the resulting negative influences. The Heimtextil now represents our confident start in the year 2010. Our newly developed collections, designs and trends provide us with an optimistic view to the future. We will see that the crisis has taken its toll. For exam-ple, our Heimtextil trend for 2010/11 reflects that the period following a cri-sis will be marked by new, spontaneous creativity. In particular, the flow of trends towards intuition is shown by this development with its universal language as a mix of patterns and colours.
How was the new Hall 11 integrated into the Heimtextil trade fair concept?
The offer range “More Clarity” for beds, bathrooms and tables will use the new exhibition area in Hall 11.1 and “More Style” will occupy Hall level 11.0. This will provide a new infrastructure, leading to a more even flow of the visitors through all offer ranges within the “West” trade fair grounds with halls 8, 9.0, 10 and 11. With a representative further entrance, the “Portalhaus”, the visitors can comfortably reach the home textiles offers centre.
What special surprises do you have lined-up for the visitors this year?
I would like to draw special attention to the “Let’s talk about it!” Contract Business Day on January 15. The contract day will be devoted to flat linen and will incorporate lectures, guided tours and showcases in Hall 8.0. Furthermore, the promotion of young talent will once again play an important role with the Young Contract Creations Awards. These awards are firmly established and include the categories Upholstery, Wall as well as the Campus. We work out a varied programme each year, informing both the exhibitors and visitors about current trends and developments in the sector. Here, I would primarily like to draw attention to the lecture series “Let’s talk about it!” (Hall 8.0) and “Let’s have a look” (Hall 3.1).
Thank you for the interview, Mr Braun.

The elegance of virtual seduction In times of technology, the Internet and public life, temptation touches upon our senses. Ageless forms are equipped with surprising new develop-ments and interpreted with classical forms. The private sphere manifests itself as miniature lounges, similar to cocoons. “Taboo“ colours such as absinthe and red wine tones are used.
Futurustic
Nachhaltiger Öko-Luxus
Sustainable eco-luxury Futuristic focuses on aspects of authenticity with sophistication as well as ecological contemplation. Aesthetically speaking, the trend statement con-centrates on nuances, fine weaving and airy volume as well as natural and earth colours.

Whether learning from nature, doing research, responsi-

versal value proves fundamental everywhere. The Heim-
textil TRENDS 2010/11 take up these values. For the first
time, all four trend directions are implemented clearly in
three respective forms for the market.
Lernen von der Natur, Forschung, verantwortungsvolle
Innovation, menschliche Geschichte in ihrer Vielfalt –
überall erweisen sich universelle Werte als grundlegend.
Die Heimtextil TRENDS 2010/11 greifen diese Werte auf.
Erstmals werden alle vier Trendrichtungen in jeweils drei
Ausprägungen anschaulich für den Markt umgesetzt.
Intuition
Spontaneous creativity Bright, contemporary colours demonstrate spontaneous creativity – diffe-rent patterns from various cultures mirror universal language. The intuitive geography surprises with its form and colour whilst combining plastic with sustainable materials.
UNI[RE]VERSE – discover new universality
Hypernature
Nature and innovation Fresh, urbane colours are combined with smog tones here, creating harmo-ny between sensuality and innovation. Transparent materials with natural tissue, such as soy and bamboo, are fundamental.

Klare Trendaussagen,
Clear trend statements, emotional sales concepts
Strengthened by its new member Porschen, Deco Team stages both trend topics hypernature and temptation
By doing so, Deco Team takes up the topics of the international home textiles Trendtable. hypernature is a light, fragrant and modern well-ness topic. The elegant living topic temptation, on the other hand, is synonymous for modern luxury and urban opulence. Deco Team pre-sents each topic in two scenarios so as to demonstrate the wide range of individual interpretations.
The event programme includes the “emotional sales con-cepts“ motto. The main focus is on factors such as the emotional mes-sage, atmospheric implementation or target-group based communicati-on and not the individual product.

Apelt – elegant and colourful For example, the new “Styles and Stripes” series presents itself as very chic and colourful with its glossy patterns applied on a matte background and bright colours such as steel blue, pink with gold, curry or red. Harmonising this are elegant stripes with varying colour schemes, highly noble in their colour combinations of dark prune, gold and red shades. Apelt is also good for a chequered surprise: a triple diamond with matching stripes and jacquard multi-purpose wear provide completely new opportuni-ties for a scintillating way to mix colours and patterns.

The company Ruther & Einenkel celebrates its 130-year anniversary
this year and has also set itself several demanding targets for the
occasion.
As a ribbon weaving mill steeped in tradition, the company can hardly be over-trumped, especially in the “curtain tapes” product sector with its great variety. At the same time, quality, reliability and the realisation of specific customer wishes are of special importance.
Our state-of-the-art-weaving and equipment technology is complemented by classic narrow fabric shuttle looms which have been thoroughly streamlined with exten-sive investments over the course of several years.
Besides our “curtain tapes and accessories”, the product range is rounded off with woven belts, edge binding and jacquard ribbons and even special ribbons for the funeral industry and highest quality laces consisting of gold spun yarn.
In addition to the many fully transparent curtain tapes which allow exciting decoration with their various pleat shapes and breadths, Ruther & Einenkel introduces a new product line with woven, transparent fleece tapes at the “Heimtextil 2010”, setting new standards with its very high stability and woven pocket-lines.
The “woven vertical blinds”, included in the range for three years now, are a further focus in the “sun protection / shadowing” sector and are particularly popular in the property sector due to solid woven edges. Now, in our anniversary year, we offer a pre-fabricated product with these high quality vertical blinds as an innovative panel curtain system.
At the same time, the dream journey is harmoniously coordinated with cosy, but also luxurious and elegant topical areas. 5 wonderful designs in the most varied colour ranges let dreams come true with sophistication and charismatic accessories. The “design paneels” are available with the topics:

Designers and consumers are happy: home textiles and wall coverings are available in countless colours these days. Selection becomes an enjoyable game to play. But be aware: decorative and uphol-stery fabric, wallpaper and carpets only provide a harmonious entity if their tones are subtly coordinated and they do not upstage each other. One different colour too many makes the room atmosphere uneasy and awkward. It is also true to say here that less is more. And that irrespec-tive of whether we are talking about a full interior or table decoration. The photos on these pages prove it: carefully considered colours com-bined with sensitivity provide interior furnishings spaciousness and a noble touch.

A “magic“ material for setting a scene When you walk into the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt Table Restaurant, the unusual material over the central, large table immediately attracts your attention.
It plays an important role for the Table. The curator Stylepark AG and the Israeli interior designer Nitzan Cohen have designed the restaurant as a room with flexible elements which the architect and designer provide with a new character at regular intervals. The material over the large, round table was designed and selected precisely for this purpose: depending on the atmosphere, requirements and surroundings, its height is adjustable and it has excellent qualities for setting a scene.
“Magic CS“ by Nya Nordiska is the metallic sheen of gold, silver, copper or graphite, captivated on textiles. It is the first material with a metal look consisting of 100% Trevira CS. Equally applicable as a coverings material, decorative material or wall covering, “Magic CS“ is highly suitable for public buildings and hotels and has been awarded the red dot design award 2007, the AIT Innovation Prize “Textil & Objekt“ and the iF product design award 2008, amongst others.
Heimtextil visitors can experience the project with “Magic CS“ live – the Kunsthalle Schirn is close to the trade fair grounds.

Optimum visibility guaranteedOn a dazzling summer day, the pleasant lighting conditions in the rooms of the German Federal Supreme Court or the German Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe are particularly striking.
The offices and courtrooms were fitted out with new blinds during the renovation and extension work. Expectations were high: visual and glare protection, glare and reflection free work, simultaneously sufficient brightness in the rooms and a view to the exterior. Moreover, the materials had to be flame retardant according to B1.
Developed as a textile screen replacement, “Arco Alu“ met all these requirements. Junkers & Müllers equipped a total of 250 windows with the special fabric consisting of Trevira CS. The transparent and very noble looking woven effect combines a view to the outside with simulta-neous visual and glare protection.
When equipping, the hanging behaviour played an important role, especially in the Federal Constitutional Court‘s old building. Due to the un-usual window sizes, Junkers & Müllers used large format blinds. Thanks to the conservative colour scheme and the high degree of transparency, “Arco Alu“ integrates excellently into various ambiences, fitting both in a modern new building as well as in the Grand Duke‘s palace.

The energy expenditure for air-conditioning is the highest electricity consumption growth rate sector in the summer. If we take a window with normal glass (double-glazed window according to DIN 4108; U value: 1.6), approx. 72% of the sun‘s energy enters the room. With internal sun pro-tection, this figure is reduced to only approx. 22% of the sun‘s heat. Modern sun protection systems can reduce the cooling energy consump-tion by up to 85%.
The internal sun protection is used as glare protection in winter and makes natural sun energy useable. At night, closing the sun protection improves heat retention in the room. A recent examination by the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics demonstrates that the heat transmission coefficient is improved by up to 50% and a 7% reduction of the useful heat is possible. Moreover, adjustable sun protection systems reduce energy requirements for artificial lighting. (Source: VIS press releases, November 2009).

ROSE COUTURE COLLECTION
Whilst expressing sophisticated but informal luxury, the Rose Couture Collection is a strong collection with a glamorous and contempo-rary touch. The fabrics use natural raw materials. Linen, offered in a vari-ety of yarn dyed colours and a new softer and richer hand finish, domi-nates. Restrained colours with iridescent dots, pastel shades with tone on
tone co-ordination, a play on structure and fil-à-fil effects are just some of the characteristics of the cottons.
This collection confirms the MARTINELLI GINETTO vocation also for furnishing and is ideal for covering sofas, beds and chairs as well as high quality curtain production. The Rose Couture Collection also offers custom-ers the possibility of buying small quan-tities of a personalised design (pieces of just 25 metres). This once again dem-onstrates great creativity and service strength of Martinelli Ginetto.
The Heimtextil 2010 will be a particularly significant moment for
MARTINELLI GINETTO as the occasion will be marked by the presentation
of their new I PRONTI Collection.

Light defines rooms or emphasizes their special features. What design trends currently influence light planning?Rooms used to have a centre outlet and a ceiling light and nothing else. For some time now, the variety of illuminants – halogen metal steam lamps, fluorescent tubes and LEDs – provides several new opportunities. I can implant light sources at any room height, at all levels, in the furniture, on the walls and in the floor. Here, there are two basic approaches: on the one hand we can hide the light source and only show the light where it meets the materials – on the wallpaper, the curtain, the carpet and the furniture. On the other hand, the light can be set in scene as an objet d’art or a deco-rative element, for example over the dining table.
What are the consequences of these design trends for the applica-tion of textiles? We see a tendency towards all-in room concepts: a painted flower motif for example is initially worked in colour, then blinding out haptically as a wall relief or consisting of such and then transposes into a jacquard woven curtain. Adolf Loos worked like this – the room as an entity where motifs are acted out. The textiles’ individuality gains significance in conjunction with the room as a unit. In the meantime, it is already possible to design materials individually in smaller quantities, making it possible to specifical-ly develop something for a room without having to spend a fortune or pur-chase 100 m.
Moreover, especially LED’s offer wonderful textile options for chandeliers: the very fine dots of light up to the glowing area enable you to discover the shades anew. There are already very striking and graceful semi-transparent organza lamp shades – a very fine shroud which drifts there.
Wall coverings combined with elements such as a vout and a sidelight can be very exciting. You can create a space between the wall and the ceiling using fluorescent tubes or LEDs where a fine, hidden line of light spreads a sidelight across the wall or ceiling. Wrinkles in the material or its haptics become apparent. If a convenient background light is provided, a vertical level emerges, creating an additional room within the room. The fabrics appear strikingly three-dimensional.
Moreover, I am convinced that the love for recently neglected curtains is on its way back again. Following the stainless steel purism of the past years, a need for cocooning is apparent once more, for example to hide parts of a window.
To what extent do light innovations inspire the development of new textiles?Firstly I think that textiles are checked again for new properties and areas of use. Here, unusual solutions will be used: cool wool, normally worn by the men as summer suits has a beautiful, dreamlike effect as curtain mate-

rial in warm halogen light. Other materials can change from translucent to opaque and be used as a screen for projection. We will soon have minia-ture beamers dangling from the ceiling for which we need projection areas at night which may not be desired at all during daytime. So a taut or soft flowing textile, spanned in a circle or drop-shaped would be ideal. There are exciting topics for trade fair presences, for stages and also for private use.
Materials which we do not currently necessarily associate with light as they are neither transparent nor transfer light also hold a great potential. But that is exactly what makes them interesting. For example, I have made a light using a felt snail which one can throw or place on the floor. If you think materials, you gain new qualities. It’s also nice to interweave light conducting fibres or LEDs into a material and then to use light on it. This creates a fabric which illuminates in part.
In particular in property business, light planning is part of part of setting the entire scene, imparting certain atmospheres or con-cepts. How do you proceed in such concrete cases? We ask where the hot spot is for each project to let the building or the company speak. And we must then present and design this hot spot in detail. For Bosch Siemens Haushaltsgeräte, for example, we partnered with DMP Architekten to realise a lounge with a very soft, high pile carpet you wouldn’t normally expect in an office building. The carpet provides a soft counterpoint to the pragmatic, clear furnishings used by the technically ori-entated company. The cool technical world is broken by materialising its materials. Finally, the corporate identity is emphasized even more strongly here. Thanks to their Nextel surfaces and the integrated lighting, the very geometric screens in the lounge provide a dull effect from a distance as if they were material-covered.
All fabrics have their space and their story – what is your sponta-neous reaction?Visconti’s movie “The Leopard”, actually the beginning: a Florentine piece of lace blows away from an old window in a gentle breeze and this image is very symbolic. We are made aware of the fact that it is a period which is already declining, that the house inhabitants are very well-off, etc. This sin-gle image with the beautiful wafting material provides us with an abun-dance of information.
Thank you for the interview Ms Allendorf.

The Cotton Council International (CCI) informs visitors to
the Heimtextil from all textile levels about USA cotton and
sustainable planting methods practised in the USA. These
are the first step towards a sustainable end product.
US cotton is reputed to be highly pure, guaranteeing a consistent-ly high quality. Further to quality and naturalness, sustainability plays an important role for critical consumers – from its cultivation through the entire processing chain up to the final product. Sustainable manufacturing requires considerable know-how, numerous measures as well as state-of-the-art technology. This commitment is indispensable if we bear in mind that the global demand for cotton will quadruple in the next decades.
You will be provided with information on these topics and on the global procurement of USA cotton and the COTTON USA marketing and licensing pro-gramme at the trade fair stand in Hall 9.0, C 44. A selection of high quality home textiles allows you to experience the performance spectrum of US cotton with all your senses.

… was the motto when the Tigerpalast Varieté Theater opened
its doors in the heart of Frankfurt on 30 September 1988. Today,
the fascination exercised by live performances with orchestra,
chansons, cabaret and breath-taking acrobatics remains as
strong as ever. At that time, cabaret artist Matthias Beltz, one
of the founders of this highly successful variety theatre, said,
“There is an obligation to provide good entertainment. Come to
the Tigerpalast for perfect liberté, egalité, varieté!”
Now, visitors once again have the chance to enjoy outstanding artists of the international variety world at the International Winter Revue 2009/2010.
See, for example, Charly Borra, the King of Pickpockets, relieve unwitting volunteers from the audience of their watches, wallets and other valuables in his inimitable and charming manner. Naturally, Charly, a gentleman of the old school, always returns all articles coming into his possession to their rightful owners.
No less fascinating is the charismatic Darkan, who demons-trates his amazing gymnastic skills on the aerial straps, two long ropes suspended from the auditorium ceiling. Gripping stuff!
And you can see a veritable balancing act when the spotlight turns on Molly Saudek, the outstanding and elegant tightrope walker who leaps and dances along the thin wire with incredible ease. Precision at its attractive best!
These and many other exceptional artists can be seen in the current Winter Revue 2009 / 2010 at the Tigerpalast Varieté Theater until 13 February.
Präzision in ihrer schönsten Form!
