I graduated from the Department of Industrial Design, King Mongkut’s Institute Technology of Ladkrabang. During the 5 years of the course, I was taught various aspects of art and design from art history and art theories to actual process design and production. My programme covered many branches of design materials from furniture design, metal work, ceramic, textile design and graphic design.

During my last year I wrote my final project (thesis) on furni-ture design which has always been my interest. For the project, I did not only design furniture for its appearances, I looked in to the relationship between culture and furniture design, trying to improve the livelihood of the community with design. I also learned to identify problems and use design as a solution for overlooked problematic areas such as public furniture of large-scale design like urban planning and lighting design.

In 2009, I started a clothing and accesso-ries brand with my close friend who is also a designer. Our brand, ‘Nordinary Order’ relies on of the simplest design; using basic geometric shapes such as a triangle, a rectangular and a circle. Our brand receives considerable amount of recogni-tion in street fashion.

I started my first proper job at Do.Did.Done Co, Ltd in Bang-kok. It specialised in event and exhibition design. As the company’s designer and later a creative, I was involved in many projects for renowned companies such as Paul Smith, Pleat Please by Issey Miyake, Heineken Royal Trophy, Chanel, etc. I was involved in each project from creating the concept to the production process which has furthered my experiences in design even more.

“Whatever surfaces are, just put it and sit it on”

The four roll legs chair was designed for place on hardgrounds like concrete but is able to stick on soft ground as well. In practice the chair is capable to lean on surfaces like flat walls or even round areas such as big trees because of the curved back rest.

This seating device uses solid materials like stanless steel, therefore it is strong enough for any climatic condition since it can be set permanently outdoors.

The purpose of this project is to add function

on simply objects in ordinary life and creating

a positive relationship between objects and

humans. Later on, I proceeded this idea of

giving function to daily productss in many

other projects such as an all-in-one sleeping

device, transformable vase etc...

including arrows and dashed lines on the

plain napkin as guidelines. The user can

just fold it in order of the numbers

following the arrows and dashed lines.

Now one can relish folding the napkins and

also is able to enjoy this product with the

My final project on furniture design in university which has always been my interest. I used the city of Pattaya as my case study.

I learned from this project the effect of human actions on the surroundings. I also learned to identify problems and use design as a solution for overlooked problematic areas such as public fur-niture of large-scale design like urban planning and lighting design.

: Side walk along thebeach at night

I used the city of Pattaya as my case study; Pattaya is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Thailand. The beach here used to be a beautiful public area where numerous tourists came to relax. However, nowadays the beach and the public furniture were wrongly used some use for set a stall to sell food others use a place that out of sight or hiding corner as place for making sexual relation and turn to den of thieves.

For over 15 years I have been receiv-ing these crazy things from an

unknown fan – Male? Female? It’s really amazing. It seems to me to be

more artistic than a lot of so called art which is revered around the world. Objects such as a ski, a football, a

chair, a surfboard, etc etc etc.

– always with the address and stamps on the actual article. I find it fascinat-

ing and intriguing but really don’t want to know who the sender is. Recently a

TV channel wanted to do a show about it but I said no as the mystery is

much more interesting!

The ‘Stamped Collection’ includes a huge

and varied collection of un-expected

objects that have been stamped and

posted to Paul. Without any packaging,

objectsfirst began arriving in 1990 – ad-

dresses and stamps placed directly on

the bonnet of a toy car, on the leather of

a football, on rubber gloves even on a

bicycle saddle.

Usually housed in Paul’s office alongside

the quirky curious that he has collected –

the exhibition includes items such as a

pull along cart, watering can, toy grass-

hopper, wheelbarrow, traffic cone and

fishing net amongst other unexpected

objects.

Heineken Royal Trophy 2010

The Heineken Royal Trophy was the biggest scale I had ever designed. With its 4800 sqm. the space was created for various activities. Firstly, I needed to analyse each of the activities and circu-lation before matching those on the right position. Later on, I also needed to consider the sunlight and wind direc-tion that must not bother guests.

Page 23: Darongklod Somton's Portfolio

The Royal Trophy is a men's professional team golf tournament which was played for the first time in January 2006 at the Amata Spring Country Club in Chonburi, Thailand. The competing teams represent Europe and Asia. Eight man teams play a series of 16 matches for the right to hold a trophy donated by the King of Thailand. Thereafter to stage it in

Europe and Asia in alternate years.

for children’s causes through the sale of a Limited Edition Creme de Corps Collection with

special labels designed by the artist.

Top Thai celebrities who came to join the event also brought toyS and gifts to help support the Mercy Center Foundation.

The donate box is degigned

to children.

The Piano Hall of Central Chidlom recently held a festive night of celebration for the opening of the Char-ity Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony organized by one of America's top skin care company.

Children from the Mercy Center also took this opportunity to thank their kind supporters by color-ing Christmas cards to show their appreciation.

My concept about Nokia Express Music itsabout using new features from the Nokia’s newest touch screen devicelike High Quality Games, Music Share, Nokia Ovi Map etc. Therefore, I designed a concept called“Real Sense”. I made every feature as a real one so you can see, touch and hear. I designeda racing track in the middle of space using Mini cooper as a car toy. According to the sense ofseeing and hearing, the main stage shows live concerts from popular Thai artists. During eachsong which the artist is playing you can download that song into your Nokia device for free.

The main inspiration behind this event is to create a space for people who love and enjoy music in order to be connected with each other. Two main parts of the event can be seen in the stage and music history exhibition. Both is accom-panied by gimmicks of music instruments and models of world musicians during the whole the event.

This retail environment has been designed to convey the depth and heritage of the global Kiehlís brand and facili-tate an authentic retail experience that respects the com-munity values, self-image and aspirations of each region where the stores are located. Creativity and expression is promoted with sculpturally inspired fixturing, natural materials, the installation of interactive elements that encourage community participation. The design of the environment is conceived around an aspirational attitude and community; not a particular age group.

TALENTTHAI

This project was create by Office of Prod-

uct Value Development, Department of

Export Promotion (DEP), who has orga-

nized it’s 11th Talent Thai Exhibition in

creating new Thai designers for the inter-

national arena by selecting outstanding

works from their portfolio and categoriz-

ing them as Talent Thai NOW and Talent

Thai NEXT. Each category has been set

through consideration and readiness and

marketing potential, in order to extend

the talent and ability of Thai designers

into the international design scene.

In my free time, I still pursue my

passion for furniture design and

home decoration. In 2009 one

of my work was selected to

become one of the “Talent Thai

by the Department of Export

NORDINARY ORDER//// was founded

in 2008 by Darongklod and Nattada

both are classmates who studied in

KMITL and became partnership to

run the business together. The first

product of our shop was t-shirt that

we thought easy to start the business

and related to our knowledge of art.

It could communicate simply and

directly to the meaning of graphics

on our t-shirts to our customers. We

have chosen dots, lines, plane, and

fundamental forms because they are

the most necessary and very impor-

tant in the design. We also thought it

could be a good solution to design

our products.
