RESULT OF THE RESEARCH:

The result of this term paper is sadness-theme

songs that create by Sam Smith and mostly leads

to despair, regret, and disappointment because

from the above explanation the weiter can

summarize that Sam Smith inspired by his

personal experience to create songs. He also

wants to voice the feelings of his people (LGBT)

through the songs he created. Most of the causes

of sadness in Sam Smith's song are about being

left behind by a lover or disappointment because

he can not have someone he loves

BACKGROUND:

Emotion is a natural reaction that everyone has. This reaction

arises from the influence of both inside and outside. Emotions

in psychology include all types of feelings experienced by a

person, ranging from feelings of anger, sadness, happiness,

fear, and so on. Emotions have an important part in life,

because emotions show the self expression of a human being in

interacting with their social groups. Compared with other

forms of copyright with other literary, poetry is the most

difficult to understand. The existence of poetry is closely

related to daily life, poetry expresses the thoughts that evoke

feelings, which stimulate the imagination of the senses in a

rhythmic composition. With the similarities between the elements

of poetry and song lyrics, it can be understood that the lyrics

of the song is also known as poetry. In this research, the writer

chooses songs by Sam Smith Leave You Lover, Burning, Nothing

Left For You and Pray. The writer wants to analyze these songs

using The Theory of Poetry Studies and The Concept of

Emotion: Sadness from Izard’s and Gross’ to know the meaning

of Sadness in the songs.
