    Since our first inception in

1985 we have travelled a long

    and winding road of various

    coteries and shadowy visions.

    From the lowest stygian abyss

    to the tallest superstructures

of dark fantasy, its been a

long haul fraught with periland rejection.

Yet we stayed the course, sift-

    ing through trends and the

    mainstream looking for the

    unknown, the unwanted, and

    the unheard.

We found you in a riverbed.

    A floater.

    A murky ballerina.

    A hanging garden of rust.

    We found you wanted more.

And even less. So we divided

    into two.

One for us. One for you.

    The work is more serious now;

    weve separated into the light

and back into the dark. The

    light floated away while our

    dark side quarreled for being,

    its breath almost choked low,

but in the end it survived, a

    contiguous thing waiting to be

    released from our hearts.

We stood on shaking legs and

lifted our eyes to the moon as

    blood reigned from our fin-

    gers.

Were back from the dead. And were fucking pissed.

    NDEAD FLESH

hat would you do if the

    zombie apocalypse

    happened tomorrow? Would

    you keep trying to survive

and protect your loved onesagainst a world filled with

    the living dead? Meet Jack

    Garret. While driving

    through Oklahoma a mas-

    sive earth-

    quake

    strikes and

    shatters the

    landscape.

    But this is

    no natural

    phenomena,

    for in its

    wake, the

    sun turns

    dark and the

    dead crawlfrom their

    graves. Jack

    must lead

    his family on a desperate

    journey through a devastat-

    ed countryside filled with

    the ravenous undead. Before

it is done, he will face thedarkest fear in his heart.

    3 NIGHTMARES

    nter a world of 13

    chilling stories; a place

    where the supernatural, the

    macabre, and the horrific

    collide. 13 Nightmares de-

    livers on the chills and

    thrills scale. These tales will

satisfy the most supernatu-rally starved, macabre

    munching, horror hound

around. So sit back -do not

    try to get comfortable be-

    cause these will keep you

on the edge of your seat -

    and prepare to dream 13

    Nightmares.

    BON MOON

    avage terror waits under

    a darkening moon.

    Seeking to escape her abu

    sive husband, Blake, Jess

    Lobato and her five-year

    old daughter Megan flee

    Chicago and hide in the

    small town of Hope

    Springs, Oklahoma. It's a

quiet community of softbgames, weekend cookout

    and Sunday meetings.

    There's just one drawback

    Something bestial emerg

    wh

    th

moon is full. Now that be

    craves little Megan's flesh

    during the next total eclip

    of the moon. Jessica is

about to learn there areworse things to fear in th

    night than a murderous h

    band.

    "

WHAT INSPIRES ME TO WRITE HORROR

What inspires me to write horror? Why do I write at all?

I started scribbling down stories on notebook paper

when I was about thirteen years old. It was during the

decade of the 1960s and I was a skinny kid whose imagination

was being fueled by late night black-and-white horror movies and

the voracious reading of science fiction and fantasy. After I grew

older, I kept returning to writing thanks to the internet. Ive al-

ways wanted to write horror and bring into the light those

creepy things that live under the bed or in the shadowed cornersof the mind. Hopefully, Ive done so with my trilogy of terror: Un-

dead Flesh, Ebon Moon, and 13 Nightmares."

WRAPPED IN REDThirteen Tales of Vampiric HorrorEdited by Jennifer L. GreeneSekhmet Press, 2013Review by

    Sara Young

    Every horrorjunkie needs a

    good anthology

    around. Small

    doses spreadthroughout the

    day keep the

    blood levels up.Spare time can

    be filled with a

little nibble. Adark tale as the

    lights go out

brings the shad-ow on the wall to

    life and makes

daylight a little sweeter. The right collection of

stories to be devoured in a sitting keeps the fanengaged, thoughtful, in suspense, or full of

adrenaline for as long as the reader draws it out.

Wrapped In Red is that collection. Smart, stimulating and wide-ranging, its not anothergroup of ho-hum bloodsucker tales. Thirteen

different writing styles bring as many varietiesof the undead to life. Besides having at least one

horrifying beastie to suit any vampire fan, the

book touches the spectrum of genres, settingsand themes. From romance to western, comedy

to sci-fi, vampires are taking over the shelves.

Theyre invading the gates of Hell, bodies of

water, Appalachia and suburbia. They couldshow up anywhere, for anyone, any time at all.The refreshingly unexpected is what made it so

much fun to turn each page.

Anyone who likes to put down a story onlyto have it creep up on them later, laugh aloud, or

look at familiar things in a new light will get a

thrill from Wrapped In Red, and it is a mustread for children of the night everywhere.

A Dark World of Spirits and FeyEdited by Alan RussoZombie Works Publications 2013Review by Sara YoungADark World of Spirits and Feywas born ofsocial media and ingenuity. Posts and responses o

Alan Russos Facebook page guided him to the su

ject matter, title and content of his latest Zombie

Works anthology. Collections about ghosts, ghoulies and every manner of scary monster are

easy to come by; stories about the dark side of spi

itual beings and fairie folk, not so much. The book

grabs the eye from the beginning for this reasonalone.

    A

refreshing variety of fright is always nice. Many of the stories are intelligent and thought-

provoking while still fun to read. Every tale has a

such a different personality, subject matter and tonit feels like a giant family reunion: thirteen brothe

and sisters with their own lives, spread across the

nation yet united by family ties. This family reun-

ion, with no bickeing or drama, is fa

    tastic. Readers

might want to loofor a little extra lig

    to brighten the cor

    ners when they wa

    away, though.

Perhaps it was by-product of e-book formatting, b

    there were a few

    rough patches that

    were mildly dis-tracting. Beyond

    that,A Dark Worl

of Spirits and Feywithout doubt an

    ethereal journey

    worth taking.
