Explore and develop my own personal visual and aethetic statement through designing a chair using plywood.

Plywood is usually associated with material that is regarded as cheap and weak. Plywood has a beautiful grain that repeats over and over. Even in an unfinished state, it’s a powerful testament to the raw beauty of wood.

You don’t need pricey, high-end materials to craft a high-design home. In the right hands, even humble sheets of plywood take on a luxurious new dimension.

Design a watch based around the qualities and characteristics associated with the color red.

When you see the color red, you associate with the it’s brightness and its bold qualities.

When going on a blind date, a red dress is the quickest and easiest color to point out. One urban legend is insurance companies will raise your insurance policy just because police officers can spot your car easier. You want to look away, but you can’t. Red lights make you stop, red lips make you stare, and red hair makes you follow.

Red has a certain flavor that people can feel or associate themselves with. Whether it’s patterns, textures, or taste- red has many properties that other colors can’t even compare to.

Create and design a water filtration device used during an emergency situation for both a single user and a group of users.

During a flood there is water everywhere, but it does not mean that water is drinkable. The waters can be plaqued with bacteria and viruses which are quite harmful.

What do you do during a flood? My research and insights lead me to believe that during a flood you are not supposed to do anything. It’s quite dangerous to be mobile, because even 6” of water can easily sweep you off your feet.

These water filtration devices were created to makes sure that user to wait until relief comes.

WATER PREPARATION

WHAT TO DO?

Having an ample supply of clean water is a top priority in an emergency.

n A person needs about 1 liter of water a day to survive

n You will need water for food preparation and hygiene

n If supplies run low, never ration water

The most important thing to do is to do nothing at all.

n Avoid already-flooded areas and do not attempt to cross flowing water

n Your car may float. Vehicles can be swept away by less than 2 feet of water

n Water 6 inches deep can knock you off your feet

1L

FLOODS n When flooding occurs, go to the highest ground possible. n Rising water can overtake a vehicle and your home in seconds. n If water rises in your home before you evacuate, go to the top floor, attic, or roof n Avoid contact with flood waters due to the unknown amount of raw sewage,

waste chemicals and the risk of drowning.

Ceramic filtering has been around for a long time. It’s easy to use and maintain. It is perfect for a flood situation, because it blocks bacteria and viruses from getting in and the charcoal aids in taste issues

Since 1953, Body Glove has been all about water. Body Glove has established itself as the leading watersports brand in the world by providing innovative, high quality products that protect water, people, and enhance their lives.

Combination of hard goods and soft goods make Body Glove unique

Body Glove colorway is black and yellow, giving instant recognition

Body Glove ensures protection inside and outside of the water

BODY GLOVEBranding

Usually when you think of Body Glove, you think of water sports and surf gear. On the contrary, Body Glove actually makes an assortment of products such as water filters.

I chose Body Glove, because not only have they been involved with water sport out there, but it was especially fitting to floods.

It starts to rain, and now rain paired with the spring thaw cre-ates unpredictable flood levels. Families are advised to climb or vacate to higher ground.

Prepared families bring their supplies and water filter with them to the roof. They start filtering flood water for immedi-ate use.

Family have continuous access to clean water using the filter. It will sustain them until help comes.

FILTER WATER

WAIT FOR HELP

Single users can use gravity to filter dirty water, either by carrying it, or hanging it onto a anything you can find.

GRAVITY

USE-CASE SCENARIOHeavy Flooding

When there is flooding mixed with heavy rain, this scenario shows how the products should be used

Page 20: Danvu Nguyen Industrial Design 2014

EXAMPLE CAP REMOVED

PASSING TIME

Floods take time to clear, before it is save to move. Precious energy should not be wasted. The best thing to do is to wait until aid comes for relief.

HOW IT WORKS

Gravity does all the work. Dirty water is placed into the top spout and then closed. The bottle can then be hung on anything that can hold it above the output. Gravity pulls the water down through the filter, and the process can be sped up by squeezing on the sides. The bottle also can be portable and can be drank throguh the spout like a normal water bottle.

WATER WEIGHT

BODY GLOVE WATER WEIGHTSingle User Water Filtration

An average person needs about a liter of water per day to survive. This water filtration device holds about .75L for weight and for the fact that water is everywhere.

Gravity does all the work in this situation. Why waste energy when gravity feeds water into the ceramic/carbon filter and through a tube either into the user or a spare storage bottle.

Promotes the notion that you should wait for help during a flood.

HOW IT WORKS

PASSIVE WORK

Dirty water is placed into one or both of the bags and closed with the cap. The seat is then opened up and one to two people can sit on the filter. Constant pressure is applied from the weight of your body and clean drinking water will come out in a constant stream.

Taking advantage of passive work, energy is saved especially during an emergency situation. During a flood you shouldn’t be mobile. The safest thing to do is to sit and wait until relief comes.

BODY GLOVE WATER PRESSUREMultiple User Water Filtration

During a flood you are sitting around waiting for help. Why not take advantage of doing nothing by doing nothing and filtering water at the same time?

This filter has a two bladder system that opens up on both sides allowing one or two users are to sit side by side using their body weight to filter water. The water is forced through during and out the center for users to share

Promotes the notion that you should wait for help during a flood.

Demonstrate knowledge of manufacturing and machanics of a product while displaying ability and skill level within Solidworks.

I’ve always been fascinated by the mechanics of robots. How they function, how they manuever, and how they think.

I wanted to showcase my skills within Solidworks by creating a robotic surgical arm that not only functions, but can be manufactured as well. I also learned how to do exploded views, drawings, and motion videos as well.
