This year, the Jewish Cultural Festival marks several major events, including the 75th anniversary of the rescue of the Danish Jews to Sweden, the 70th anniversary of the creation of the state of Israel, and the 75th anniversary of the revolt in the Warsaw Ghetto.
We are very proud that the Jewish Cultural Festival this year can exhibit Danish-Jewish art at the city Hall of Copenhagen.
It is an important exhibition showing the diversity of Jewish art in Denmark. The Jewish Culture Festival has gained an extra dimension this year thanks to this exhibition. Thanks to all the artists who have made their works available for this exhibition. Special thanks to the initiators of this exhibition, Joseph Salamon and Mogens Kischinovsky.
Special thanks to the municipality of Copenhagen for letting us use the Town Hall and for providing other support. We hope that many will find their way to the exhibition and the festival's other events.
Best wishes for the Festival and for the exhibition.

THE DANISH-JEWISH ART EXHIBITION 2018
1907 marked the 250th anniversary of the first Jews being granted permission to settle in Denmark. In order to highlight that occasion an exhibition of Jewish art was planned. However, due to various problems it was held in 1908 by the Industrial Association in Copenhagen.Cultural artefacts used in synagogues and private homes were displayed. A special section featured manuscripts, while another showed pictures of Danish-Jewish artists, including Camille Pissaro. In a third section, works by foreign Jewish artists, including Max Liebermann, Hermann Struck and Jozef Israëls could be seen.
This year, in 2018, 110 years later, we wish to highlight the contribution of Jewish artists to the artistic life in Denmark. We have chosen to invite a number of professionals in the field of visual arts to exhibit examples of their work.
Many ask, “What is Jewish art?” We cannot find a conclusive answer. Is it art with Jewish traditional motifs? Is it works created by Jews? Are there works with Jewish motifs created by non-Jews?Is the music Kol Nidre, written by Christian Max Bruch, Jewish art? Are Jewish tunes written by Prokofiev Jewish music? Is the monument of the Lur Blowers in Copenhagen, created by Siegfried Wagner, Jewish art?
There are about 5-6,000 Jews living in Denmark. This exhibition is part of the Eighth Jewish Cultural Festival in Denmark.
