Daniel Defoe was famous English writer of the eighteenth century.

He wrote his world famous novel “The life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe .”

The story of Robinson Crusoe was based on the real adventures of a sailor called Alexander Selkirk , who had lived alone for four years on a desert island . The book , however, also contains a lot of incident from the author’s imagination .

When the book was published in 1719, it immediately became popular. Defoe made his story so realistic that everyone believed it.
