NOTES ON GEORGES PEREC’S TEXT: PLAZA ST SULPICE, FIRST DAY, IN AN ATTEMPT TO EXHAUST A PARISIAN PLACE(1982)

To take a look around.

Become aware of what surrounds us by the fact of fixing one’s eyes on every single thing that is out there.

To sharpen the eye.

To look as if one was drawing, underlining reality with the eye as if it was a precise bodkin that could engrave every object in our mind.

The eye, not as a passive receptacle of a beam of light, but as an active tool.Moving the eye on top of things as a building decision.

Thinking that in fact that it is the eye that sends a beam of light charged with meaning over the objects…

Tracing what it’s seen as if one had a pencil in the eye and a notebook inside one’s head.

Gathering together information, making lists, cataloguing, collecting glanzes, series of repetitive, redundant peeks...

Sometimes the eye lies capriciously its sight on the same things over and over again, sometimes one time is enough...

Gather heterogeneous information from an equal series of glanzes , everything falls infront of our eyes with the same level of intensity and simultaneity…qualifying, the applying of meanig comes afterwards.

To recognise a place, mapping the surroundings, to try and capture a moment, to collect memories, in other words, to know how to look at things.

Perec places himself in a specic spot in París, at a precise hour of a certain year and he decides to carry on an exercise that he names as:

“Sketch of an inventory of some of the things strictly visible”

Page 9: DANI ROSSELLO CURRICULUM VITAE ENGLISH

The word inventory sets us in a mood for a purely objective gathering of data, exempt of any kind of feelings.

The inventory, the lists set one thing after another, trying not to leave anything behind.

The exercise of creating an inventory as thorough as possible of what surrounds him, trying not to miss a thing, aims to pursue a more emotional intention that what it would look like at the beginning…capture a moment.

A scrutiny, almost as scanning whatever surrounds him with the sole intention of embalming, of embottling everything for maybe later on being able to recreate it over and over again.

Re-reading the inventory years later enables us to rebuild that place, as if we uncorked the bottle where Perec managed to keep that moment incorrupt…releasing an aroma.

Zhang Da Qian was born in Neijang. He is considered one of the grea-test chinese painters of the XX century.

In april 2010, Excellence Group invited Miralles Tagliabue EMBT to de-sign the Zhang Da Qian museum in Neijang in Sichuan province.

In 1965 Zhang Da Qian and Pablo Picasso met at Antibes, where they exchanged gifts and ideas about art. This is how a long-term friendship started between them.

The will expressed by Neijang mayor is to continue the relationship of friendship between Zhang Da Qian and Pablo Picasso through the two cities where they were born.

The formal development of the project aims to integrate the cultural essence of both East and West, creating a building that will be able to represent their past and future. The building is placed on the top of Dong Tong Lu hill, at Yuan mountains, to the west of Xi Lin monastery and south to the Tuo river. The museum will be one of the most outstanding buildings in the city. It will grow from an existing tea house and will spread its program over an existing garden on a scheme of pavillions linked by bridges. The motifs and forms extracted from Zhang Da Qian’s paintings inspire the formal development of the project in its verticality by informing the geometries of all the compressed bamboo ribs. At the same time Picasso’s drawing of a faune( a gift from him to Zhang Da Qian using the chinese brushes he just had received from zhang) inform the mo-vement and geometries of the pavillions horizontally. This merging of both geometries from Zhang Da Qian and Picasso aim to enhance their friendship as well as the brotherhood between their cities: Malaga and Neijang.

The best way to relate to this amazing surroundings is to think the co-mic museum not as a building but as a landscape strategy. It will dialogue with its surroundings at a larger scaleits closer scale is not the existing buildings but the islands.what if the first action was to bend a piece of island and make it float?we would automatically have a piece of land to shelter our activities under and above it…no existing building will no longer be rivalry because our building will not look as a building but as a piece of land.what if we created an artificial land on the water that would enhance the condition of being on top but also under the water?a structure that plays with water and blossoms in its maximum beauty from this special condition… a floating cluster of water lilies.the water underneath, the water around and the water in between…a magic structure that will hold an imaginary piece of land where fantasy will be nourished and guarded.

A NEW DOOR FOR LLEIDAThe extense green areas that surround the old Seu of Lleida prevails over the whole city and are one of the most beautiful public spaces in Lleida that can be taken into account as a valid reference.Maybe the project for the new Ricard Viñes square has seeked this beauty.A public space conformed through out small squares and green areas for the city, in this particularly dense spot of vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The shape of a labyrinth is a very old shape. The cultural meanings and the interpretations of the Labyrinth as a symbol are very rich.Labir is a word related to the word rock, stone.Inthos is a greek word that indicates a foundational place that has been found. There was a time when dances were organized by drawings on the ground. Our proposal is an open space for a dancing floor with a labyrinth drawing that guides the dancers movements during the spring.

CAMPUS AS LAGOAS MARCOSENDE, VIGO. ESPAÑA

Maybe it’s the right time for preparing the way in which the university’s community should identify itself with an specific organization...The vitality of the different Faculties makes it necessary to redefine the qualities of this place and how should they be projected towards the future. We propose to work with two lines of thought, maybe appa-rently opposite, because they will put the existing qualities of the place into value.First...emphasize the natural character of this place: A magnificient location, the small inner valleys, the topography...For this purpose it’s necessary to coordinate oneself with the different works that are already onsite:New access ringroad, parking lots, enlargements of the different faculty buildings, integrated facilities, reforestation, a global proposal for water collecting, etc...This is a midterm job that should bring back the natural landscaping features of this place...The students should take advantage of this landscaping features:Silence, concentration, intensity of personal work in an ideal place for this to happen, to take place...

“The clean and neat dialogue that takes place between matter and space, the wonder of this dialogue in the edge, i believe, that in an important percentage, it is because rather space is a very fast matter, or because matter is a very slow space.¿Will not be the edge a frontier, not only between densities, but between speeds too?¿Will not be density, in all its splendour, necessary for trying to communicate, to unders-

tand, to hear space?” Eduardo Chillida

While strolling along Domaine de Dar Essalam’s paths we take pictures of the different textures that we find on our way, as scientific samples for a further analysis. The shadows casted by leaves, the light filtered through the avocado trees, dry casuarina leaves crowded around by the wind drawing free shapes...

All these natural patterns serve us to think in the right strategies to apply on the design of the gardens.

The aim is to keep as much as we can the atmosphere of the place...
