WHAT IS GAMBLING?

Gambling is the wagering of money or something of material value (referred to as "the stakes") on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning additional money and/or material goods. Gambling thus requires three elements be present: consideration, chance and prize. Typically, the outcome of the wager is evident within a short period.

TYPES OF GAMBLING : Games of chance Betting Lottery

Games of chance : from the most widespread , practices today are slot machines, jackpots, card games, Bingo’s and many other games. Casino’s in Las vegas and other place in USA provide thousands of ways for gamblers to make millions of dollars and others to lose their money instantly.

Betting : Sports betting is the activity of predicting sports results and placing a wager on the outcome. It is generally considered to be a form of gambling.

Lottery :  A contest in which tokens are distributed or sold, the winning token or tokens being secretly predetermined or ultimately selected in a random drawing.

Free Draws : various companies and organizations sometimes do promotions for their products and services by making free draws ... For example : filling out small coupons and entering them into a draw to win prizes like cars and tickets etc. this type of free draw is not haram as long as there is you don’t have to pay money and the prizes are halal.

Some Quran ayah’s on gambling: Allah Most High says, “Wine, gambling, idols, and fortune-telling arrows

are but filth of the Devil’s handiwork, so shun it, that you may succeed. The Devil only wants to create enmity and hatred between you over wine and gambling, and to prevent you from remembering Allah and from prayer. Will you not then desist?” [Quran 5:90-91]

"They ask thee concerning wine and gambling. Say, 'In them is great sin and some benefit for men; but the sin is greater than the benefit."

(Qur'aan 2:19) "O believers! Intoxicants and gambling, worshipping stones and

divination by arrows are impure, of shaytan's handiwork: refrain from such abomination that ye may prosper. "

(Qur'aan 5:90)

Ahadith on gambling : “Whoever says to his companion, ‘Come, I will play you for stakes,’ must expiate by giving charity.” [Sahih Bukhari]

“ The one who gambles is revolting against god and his messenger. It is as if his hands are covered by the guts and blood of swine. (Muslim)
