Maximum magnetic field strength sufficient to cause a compass deflection of more than 2 degrees at a distance of 2.1 m from any point on the surface of the assembled package. The magnetic field strength at the compass producing a 2 degree deflection is taken to be 0.418 A/m (0.00525 Gauss).
All destinations transported by PostNL by air and truck
Type of batteries or cells allowed inside equipment
Lithium ION (max. watt-hour rating)
• Cell max. 20 Wh
• Battery max. 100 Wh
Lithium METAL (max. lithium content)
• Cell max. 1 gram
• Battery max. 2 gram
Quality requirements
Each cell or battery is of the type proved to meet the requirements of each test of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part III, subsection 38.3. If necessary, a test report must be send. Cells and batteries must be manufactured under a quality management program as described in 3.9.2.6 (e) of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. The Watt-hour rating must be marked on the outside case of the battery except for batteries manufactured before January 2009.
Requirements per packet
• Batteries/cells shall always be incorporated in equipment
• Not more than 4 cells or 2 batteries in any single packet It is not required to connect the battery/cell to the equipment, but the lithium battery must be properly installed and covered in the battery case of the equipment and must be meant to give its power to the specific equipment in which it is installed.
• If the battery/cell is connected to the equipment, it is very important to make sure that the equipment cannot be activated accidentally during transport.
• Per package, not heavier than 5 kilogrammes (max 2 kilogrammes for packets
• The batteries may not be susceptible to overheating or short circuiting
• The shipment must be packed in a strong rigid outer packaging constructed of suitable material of adequate strength and design in relation to the packaging’s capacity and its intended use unless the battery is afforded equivalent protection by the equipment in which it is contained
The below items are considered to be loose batteries/cells or batteries/cell outside equipment and must be processed & packed as described in chapter 3:
• Powerbanks/battery packs
• Packages with equipment containing a lithium battery inside but also a spare battery
Undeliverable packets
Packages that could not be delivered to the recipient could be returned to the customer, please discuss the options with your Account Manager.
