CASE STUDY

Master Plan Process After convening a central steering committee, community feedback workshops were conducted in order to identify existing opportunities and access gaps. Priority was given towards creating connectors between three major amenities within Dandridge: Field of Dreams Community Center; the historic Downtown and Water Front; and Maury Middle School. Throughout the entire process, regular community feedback was utilized for both design planning and reviews. Through these workshops and subsequent planning sessions, three alternative path choices were proposed.

City of Dandridge, TN (Town of Dandridge Facebook)

Dandridge Tennessee, located 30 miles East of Knoxville, is the state’s second oldest city and has a population of just over 16,000 people. Situated near major interstates and along the winding Douglas Lake, Dandridge is an attractive business destination, and experienced a doubling of its population between 1990 and 2015. Desiring to maintain its relative walkability and livability in the face of such drastic changes, Dandridge applied for and received a 2014 TDOT Community Transportation Planning Grant to create a Bike and Pedestrian Master Plan. The master plan was to be implemented in conjunction with the larger Dandridge riverfront redevelopment plan.

Route Accessibility Review (Dandridge Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan)

All three proposed routes approached connectivity and route accessibility differently. Having multiple plans outlined provided several different options which residents and city officials could vote on, to best address Dandridge’s current and future transportation needs. Each route was also put through rounds of evaluation, including:

• User Comfort & Safety

• Accessibility

• Opportunity for Aesthetic/

• Cost

• Property/Right of

Way Impacts
