Dan Eldon 1970 - 1993
By the time he was 22 Dan had worked as a graphic designer in New York; studied
(intermittently) at four colleges; led a relief mission across Africa; traveled through Africa, Europe, India, Japan, and the
US; founded a charity for Mozambican refugees; directed a film; written a book; started up his own photography business; and become a journalist for the Reuters News Agency,
covering the famine and civil war in Somalia.
“I am on the airplane now . Virgin, London to L.A. I want to do great things in my life, I want the plan to land so I can start. The only problem is where do I start? What do I do when I get off the plane to do great things? Is University the best place for me? Should I take off to my career to El Savlador?
Listen to what your heart tells you, you say! Well I’d like to rip the little bastard out and interrogate him with a twelve volt car battery!”
“In a mission statement titled "Safari as a Way of Life," Dan Eldon wrote: "To explore the unknown and the familiar, distant and near, and to record in detail with the eye of a child, any beauty (of the flesh or otherwise), horror, irony, traces of Utopia or Hell."
Safari as a way of life
Safari means …… a journey or expedition, for hunting, exploration, or investigation, esp. in eastern Africa.
“Safari is about constant play, constant curiosity, constant resourcefulness. It’s a perspective on life, a life lived in eternal exploration. (Dan Eldon) “
