Fourth Grade has been hard at work in Science learning
about the detailed parts of a plant. As part of the learning
process, students planted pumpkin seeds in the ground and
in cups. They are watching them grow both at school and at
home. They are hoping for a great pumpkin! Along with
Science, students are also learning about Texas in Social
Studies and working hard on Study Island. Together they
are reading the novel, This Sign of the Beaver and are hav-
ing fun exploring the Ft. Bend County Library Online.
The Damon Bobcat Football team, under the coaching of Coach Haley and Coach Helton, have poured their heart and soul into all 3 of their games that they have played. The Lady Cats are off to a fan-tastic season. They have par-ticipated in 3 games and a tournament in East Bernard. Although they didn’t bring home a trophy, they brought home a great experience and had a great time.
This year we had enough play-ers to divide up into 2 teams.

Run, walk, jog, sprint...students can do it any way they wish! The ultimate
goal is to complete as many miles as possible throughout the 2007-2008 school year. Students are recognized during morning announcements whenever they reach promi-nent mile markers. They are
also given “feet” tokens and mile markers to display their hard work and determination dur-ing their physical edu-cation classes. How many miles can they accumulate this year? We will have to wait and see how far their little feet can take them!

Damon Band—By Mr. Sanders
First Grade has been hard at work learning as much as they can. In Science, students experimented with the gr owth of plants. To help them do this, they each planted be an seeds. It was interesting to see how some beans never took of f while others grew wild! Among other things that students are learn-ing are reading skills, addition and number order, spelling words with short and long vowels, and many other e xciting topics. One of the favorite games students love to play is “SPARKLE”.

Learning in Action! Mrs. Moreno’s Kin-dergarten class made fresh squeezed lemonade as they were learning about the letter L. They have also learned about the letters O, G, H and T. Soon, they will add P, A, and N to the list of let-ters they know!

The NEW Bobcat Band is off to a rousing, enthusiastic beginning of the 2007 school year. The nineteen band members are working hard to learn something new every day. So far the instru-mentation includes two flutes, three clarinets, two alto saxo-phones, seven trumpets, three trombones, and two percussion players. ALL are doing an AWE-SOME job in learning to play their band instrument.
Damon ISD—home of the Damon Bobcats recently won an A+ for Energy grant in the amount of $10,000! DISD is excited about participating in the A+ for Energy Edu-cation Program and will be creating a local “BP” Project entitled “Bobcat Podcasts” (otherwise known as our BP Energy Project).
Damon ISD’s “BP” (Bobcat Podcast) Energy Project will incorporate the use of iPod media players and podcasting communication techniques to stimu-late interest, enhance learning and knowledge, and trigger the imaginative powers of our 8th grade students as they explore the dynamics of nuclear energy. Through a technology rich, internet based education network of apprentice teachers from The University of Texas in Austin, and junior high students from Eanes ISD near Austin, Damon 8th graders will create and upload podcasts fusing the research data, personal interviews, and digital imagery they will assemble focusing on nuclear energy.
