This is predicted to change on Sunday with a return of rain and strong winds being forecast. All to be expected as we approach the start of winter. This week our student aendance returned to normal levels with virtually all of our students back at school. Of course, with the start of the cooler weather, we will now begin to see students, staff and our community having to manage the usual coughs and colds that will inevitably come with this change of seasons. I would ask that parents are mindful of this and ensure that they do not send students along to school that are unwell. While this has always been the case, given the current circumstances around Covid-19, now it is even more important that all families are vigilant and keep their children home when they are sick. While there have been no major announcements or changes that impact on schools this week, there are a couple of areas that I would like to draw to peoples aenon. At this point, the holding of assemblies is sll not possible and unlikely to resume this term. This being the case, staff would sll like to acknowledge the efforts and achievements of students in the usual manner through the awarding of merit cerficates. This will connue in a somewhat different manner, being conducted over the PA system each fortnight. The announcements will be made by our Year 6 leaders and cerficates presented to students by the admin team. In this way our award winners will be recognised by their peers and teachers and receive their merit award to bring home. Parents will also connue to be contacted by their childs teacher when their child is to receive a cerficate. It has been awesome to see just how well our young students have adapted to the change around school drop-off and pick-up. Even our very lile kindergarten students have shown that they can do this in a very independent way. I think that this may have surprised many of us with just how capable our students can be. With the exisng arrangements remain in place, it is great to know that students are starng their day so confidently.

While there have been no major announcements or changes that impact on schools this week, there are a couple of areas that I would like to draw to people’s attention. At this point, the holding of assemblies is still not possible and unlikely to resume this term. This being the case, staff would still like to acknowledge the efforts and achievements of students in the usual manner through the awarding of merit certificates. This week we conducted a survey with all of our students regarding the structure of lunch time. Currently students are playing first and then eating before returning to class. This format was introduced midway through term one with the aim to encourage students to play more, be ready to eat and to be settled on returning to class. The survey results indicated that (37%) of students were in favour of this format, (32%) preferred eating first, while (31%) didn’t mind either way. Staff were also surveyed to gauge their thoughts on this matter with (67%) in favour, (9%) against and (24%) who were happy either way. Given these results we will continue with the current format of playing first and then eating. Staff will also continue to look at ways in which to tweak this format to further improve the outcomes for students. See inside for further comments and details regarding this survey. Have a great week,

Don Boyes Principal

‘No’ Responses -

Hungry, too long to wait. Really really really hungry and grumpy. Starving to death. I get a headache waiting so long to eat.

Not enough time to eat. Lunch is too much to eat in short amount of time.

Low energy to play but too much energy in class

Would still like to spread out during eating lunch.

I can't find my friend at lunch to play with when we go out first thing.

I like to eat slow and chat with my friends, not enough time

‘Don't mind’ responses -

I don't really feel hungry once I've had recess until I get home.

I don't mind because I like both.

I have a good play either way.

There are good and bad things about both of them.

because I just can see my friends.

It doesn't impact me and there are lots of pros and cons.

It is fun either way.

‘Yes’ responses -

I'm not hungry, but hungry after I play. I like getting all the energy out. Like getting all my energy out first.

All my energy goes away after playing then I feel hungry. Burn energy first then restore it.

I like being full when returning to class.

I just like getting out and playing.

It's nice to relax and eat after you play.

Some people don't eat all of their lunch because they rush off to play.

I don't like being hot in class so play first.

I like talking about what we did at lunch play. Play first talk about it after with my friends.

I have gotten use to it. I like how we are spread out in and out of the undercover area.

Time to cool down after play. I also love sitting outside.

All my friends would finish eating and I would be by myself.

I actually eat all my lunch.

I have heard and have seen less people throwing rubbish on the ground which is great for the DUG people. It also encourages me to eat my food.

If you eat first and then play you get a stitch.
