WELCOME TO DALLAS, TX

Greetings skin care and spa professionals,

Les Nouvelles Esthétiques & Spa and Dermascope are proud to present The International Congress of Esthetics and Spa, Dallas 2013. We welcome you back to the Arlington Convention Center for another exciting congress featuring more education, demonstrations, products, equipment and networking! Les Nouvelles Esthétiques & Spa and Dermascope celebrate the beginning of our 15th year as partners in bringing you The International Congress of Esthetics and Spa. Since 1999, we have been combining our efforts and resources to bring you the best of the spa industry. We have reached out to many organizations throughout our industry to create diversity in our education program. We are proud to welcome the endorsements and participation of the Aesthetics International Association, the National Aesthetic Spa Network, the National Coalition of Estheticians Manufacturers-Distributors & Associations, Associated Skin Care Professionals and The Spa Buzz.

This year, our General Session delivers two days of exciting lectures and demonstrations you do not want to miss. Dr. Sam Lam opens the Sunday session with a lecture on The Physician and the Esthetician: A Partnership in Beauty, followed by a demonstration of a mature skin treatment by Elaine Linker dealing with acne and wrinkles. Cheryl Staurowsky brings you Summer Friendly Treatment Options to Freshen up Your Menu, and Nathalie Cecilia delivers a dramatic demonstration of Bamboo-fusion: Warm Bamboo Massage. Monday begins with an informative lecture on Connecting Aromatherapy and Natural Ingredients for Wellness by Bonnie Canavino, and is followed by an exciting demonstration on Active Isolated Stretching Massage by Bruce Baltz. Tina Zillmann helps us Tap Into the Multi-Billion Dollar Male Market, while Krissa Gordon wraps up the morning with a makeup demonstration on Contouring Shaping and Design.

To ensure we bring you more education than any other event, this year we are debuting new workshops and seminars on many topics, including: Successful Selling, Developing Vendor Partnerships, Group Market Strategies, The Path to Long-term Clients and Maximum Profit, Build Your “Celebrity” Status, Successful Goal Planning, New Age Marketing and Media, Aesthetics and Wellness Program, Airbrushing, Eyelash Extensions and a panel discussion on Solutions to a Successful Career. We are also hosting a Spa Business Lounge and welcome the National Esthetics Teacher Training Conference. As always, our exhibit floor is packed wall to wall with esthetics and spa innovations, and includes dozens of manufacturers’ classes, featuring demonstrations on the latest products and services.

Finally do not miss our complimentary barbecue party on Sunday, May 5 from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. The event is held at the Sheraton hotel.

This is truly the most all-encompassing schedule of events we have ever brought to Dallas! Enjoy!

9:30 a.m. oPENING CErEMoNy By Will Strunk

will Strunk is the publisher of Dermascope Magazine, founder of WES Publishing Co., founding partner with Avalon Media Group and a partner with The International Congress of Esthetics & Spa. As an entrepreneur for over 30 years, as well as an author and lecturer, Strunk conducts motivational seminars and results-oriented workshops on successful business practices. Having started his first business as a teenager, he shares successful behavioral practices that are not taught in business schools, but are rather learned from a lifetime devoted to motivational training and developing relationships with hundreds of other successful entrepreneurs.

9:45 a.m. THE PHySICIAN AND THE ESTHETICIAN: A PArTNErSHIP IN BEAuTy (LECTurE - 30 MINuTES)By Sam Lam, M.D.

Creating a dynamic partnership between a physician and an esthetician is essential to the success of any medical spa. This cohesive relationship greatly increases the client’s confidence and adds value and benefits to all wellness, skin and cosmetic enhancement procedures. When both the physician and the esthetician have a solid understanding of what the other offers, they gain a deeper perspective on how to treat the patient/client, and thus the partnership flourishes. In this lecture, Dr. Lam explains new techniques and trends for cosmetic facial enhancement. He focuses on how they impact skin rejuvenation, as well as how the esthetician can improve post-treatment results.

Samuel Lam, M.D., is a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon and hair transplant surgeon. He is an international lecturer, as well as the author of seven major textbooks and more than 150 published articles. Dr. Lam is the national course director of a hair transplant course in St. Louis, MO. He owns and operates a 27,000 square foot wellness center in Plano, TX that holds a spa and a Jose Eber Salon. He is the 2002 winner of the John Orlando Roe Research Prize for his research on skin rejuvenation.

10:30 a.m. HoW CAN I HAvE ACNE AND WrINkLES AT THE SAME TIME? (DEMo - 45 MINuTES) By Elaine Linker

Acne is not just a teenage problem anymore—dermatologists are seeing a rapid increase in adult patients seeking treatment for the condition. This lecture and demonstration fills the knowledge gap among professional estheticians, enabling you to answer your clients’ questions with “actionable” solutions that won’t dry out their skin. Acne is a multifactorial skin concern, and it is necessary to have a clear understanding of its causes and the latest treatment options in order to develop an individualized plan for each client. Clear your clients’ complexions without the undesirable effects of red, dry and irritated skin. Improve your treatment of acne and the way you educate your clients about it.

Elaine Linker has more than 20 years of experience in the skin care industry, and is currently the director of corporate communications and education for Christina Skincare USA. As the co-founder of Doctor’s Dermatologic Formula, she revolutionized education in the both the spa and consumer world by demystifying the science around skin care. Linker is a sought after speaker and published writer for her extensive experience in research, development, product, ingredients, marketing, sales and training.

11:15 a.m. SuMMEr-FrIENDLy TrEATMENT oPTIoNS (LECTurE - 30 MINuTES)By Cheryl Staurowsky

Many estheticians are hesitant to offer certain treatments in the summertime. However, losing business during the warmer months is not ideal. While the hot weather and high sun exposure of summer do impose a number of treatment-related risks that do not exist the remainder of the year, by identifying these concerns we are able to choose effective treatment methods and ingredients appropriate for higher temperatures. Join Staurowsky to learn multiple ways to create summer-safe protocols and encourage client compliance year-round.

Cheryl Staurowsky is an Advanced National Educator for PCA Skin®. She began her career in medical esthetics in 1994. Staurowsky has experience working with a variety of skin conditions and medical devices. She is passionate about educating her patients on the benefits of skin care, and how a formula works within the skin. Staurowsky has been a PCA SKIN educator since 2003.

12:45 p.m. BAMBoo-FuSIoN: WArM BAMBoo MASSAGE (DEMo - 45 MINuTES) By Nathalie Cecilia

Bamboo-fusion®, an innovative new warm bamboo massage technique, is an effective way to deliver a luxurious full body deep tissue or Swedish massage that your clients will love. The modality is easy on the therapist’s body, hands and wrists, enabling them to provide more sessions without fatigue or injury. Warm bamboo massage is also cost effective and easy for spas to implement, with a high return on investment. Bamboo Visage is also discussed, a facial treatment using a delicate bamboo set designed for the unique contours of the face.

Nathalie Cecilia was born in Nimes, South France and has a master’s degree in philosophy and languages from Université des Lettres de Montpellier. In 2004, she attended Sarasota School of Massage, and three months after graduation opened Two Touch Company. Cecilia is the “original” source for warm bamboo massage in the United States, and she teaches continuing education classes at spas and resorts across the country.

ABouT THE GENErAL SESSIoNThe General Session consists of vendor neutral educational lectures and demonstrations led by respected industry leaders. Presenters include estheticians, dermatologists and business owners with many different areas of expertise. General Session classes cover emerging new trends in the spa industry, the connection between biological processes and skin, fresh treatment ideas and advice on boosting your business.

radio frequency lifts and tightens skin without the need for surgery, and restores a youthful face and body vitality. It is the latest and most requested treatment. RF treatment can reduce fine lines and wrinkles; lift a flaccid face and neck; tighten crêpey skin and tummies; reduce cellulite and “orange peel”; and tighten buttocks and thighs. This class covers a wide variety of topics, including the power of radio frequency, how and why it works, the length and frequency of treatments, as well as the financial benefits of offering such treatments. Features a PowerPoint presentation and hands-on demonstration. Attendees receive a technical manual, and certificates of attendance are available with purchase.

Equally important, it is crucial to know the mechanisms the skin develops in order to correct physical and chemical aggressions, which the skin is exposed to as the lining of the body.

Attend and discover easy steps on how to multiply your revenue though functional medicine, cosmetic procedures, holistic modalities and wellness programs. Multiply your revenue by offering effective medical spa programs! Whether you are thinking about introducing medi-spa services within your practice or already offer them, one of the biggest challenges most medi-spas experience is “low capacity.” This challenge is real due to the fact that many spas focus on à la carte treatments rather than programs, which are customized guest solutions that include multiple modalities and treatments to produce specific results to address your guests’ needs.

The following topics are addressed:

• Introducing medi-spa programs that increase guest retention rate• Selecting ideal treatments and programs for your target market • Adopting the spa program (series and membership) philosophy• Increasing retail sales with home care recipes• Easy to follow implementation steps

If you are looking for innovative ways to maximize your revenue, offer unique positioning or gain a competitive edge, you owe it to yourself to attend! This session is ideal for physicians, spa directors, managers or anyone who wishes to elevate their success!

This seminar covers the specific skills, behaviors and choices that can empower you to effectively make plans and achieve goals. Learn how to find and attract the opportunities and resources that will lead you to your goals. Everything you want exists—and is available! You can absolutely get to where you want to be from where you are. It is a matter of having the proper plan, resources and making good choices. Join this motivational seminar and set yourself on the path to having a greater influence on your destiny.
