Advice sent home in the first learning at home pack: Each family should make decisions about how you use your time at home with careful consideration of your own and your child’s well-being. Schools understand that this can be a stressful time and taking care of each other is a priority. By keeping with familiar routines and structures students are more likely to stay calm, engage with different ‘work’ tasks, and use positive behaviour. Transition back to school will be easier too. • Timetables – let students know what is going to happen, make a list or use pictures to support • First and Then – doing ‘work’ or non-preferred activities first and then a reward or preferred activity (visual included in the pack) • Timers are a great way to transition from one activity to another (use a phone, or put a sticker on the clock) • Adjust times for activities to maximise success, personalise length of activities and expectations for your child 2.
