Opposition rejects government statement.

U.S. Congress has approved to send light arms to the moder-ate forces in the Syrian oppo-sition. According to U.S. and European sources, the armed groups in south of the country will receive these weapons as well as several types of light weapons and anti-tank mis-siles, but do not include air defense systems.

The UN envoy to Syria, Lakh-dar Brahimi, pointed out that there is an attempt to imple-ment the Geneva 1 Communi-qué, aiming at ending the war in Syria and enabling Syrian people to achieve their legiti-mate aspirations and build a new Syria, stressing that there was no other agreement to stop the advance of fire or mitigate the level of violence in Syria, adding that the two parties should respect the con-fidentiality of the negotiations and not to transfer what is go-ing on inside the meetings to the press and the media.
