The body of Ravi Kumar, a native of Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad district, was spotted by rescuers after 36 hours of intense search. Kumar fell from the 8,200 metre altitude, which is popularly known as Balcony, and died, said Dinesh Bhattarai, Director General of Department of Tourism. "Our liaison officer deputed in Mt Everest has confirmed that he died after he fell some 150 to 200 metre down from the Balcony while he was descending after the summit," he told PTI. "But it not possible to retrieve the body immediately," Chowang Sherpa, managing director of Arun Treks and Expedition, said. Balcony is the final resting spot before climbers ascend the south summit of the mountain. With this, the total number of people who died from the Nepal side of Mt Everest has reached five. Kumar successfully climbed the 8,848 meters high Mount Everest at 1:28 PM on Saturday. His climbing guide Lakpa Wongya Sherpa was also found unconscious after suffering from frostbite at Camp IV. Kumar and the climbing guide got separated during the descent. Ang Tshering Sherpa, presi- dent of Nepal Mountaineering Association earlier had earlier said that "the chances of his survival were slim, as more than 24 hours had elapsed since he went missing in the extreme climate". An American and a Slovakian died near the summit of the world's highest peak yesterday. An Australian also died while the identity of the fourth person was not immediately known. (PTI) Elections to 10 RS seats cancelled; no new date announced NEW DELHI, May 22: The Election Commission today cancelled elections to 10 Rajya Sabha seats scheduled to be held on June 8, citing a clash with the presidential poll due in July and the EVM challenge beginning on June 3. A brief statement from the EC said it has decided to "withdraw" the press note of May 16 announc- ing the elections to Rajya Sabha seats from Goa, Gujarat and West Bengal. It said it will announce fresh dates "in due course". The terms of several promi- nent faces in the Rajya Sabha, including Union minister Smriti Irani, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury and Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien, are set to end in July and August. The notification for the now- postponed polls was to be issued today as per the May 16 press statement. Out of the 10 retiring mem- bers, four are from Trinamool Congress, three from Congress, two from BJP and one from the CPM. While the term of Shantaram Naik (Cong, Goa) is coming to an end on July 28, the retirement of Ahmed Patel (Cong), Dilipbhai Pandya (BJP) and Irani (BJP) - all from Gujarat - is due on August 18. The tenure of members from West Bengal - O'Brien (TMC), Debabrata Bandhopadhyay (TMC), Pradip Bhattacharya (Cong), Yechury (CPM), Sukhenduhakhar Roy (TMC) and Dola Sen (TMC) are also ending on August 18. A Commission spokesperson later clarified that the presidential election may coincide with the schedule of RS polls in view of the fact that secretaries of legislative assemblies are notified as return- ing officers for RS elections and they are also to be appointed as assistant returning officers for the presidential election. Elections to 10 RS seats cancelled; no new date announced

NEW DELHI, May 22:

The Election Commissiontoday cancelled elections to 10Rajya Sabha seats scheduled to beheld on June 8, citing a clash withthe presidential poll due in Julyand the EVM challenge beginningon June 3.

A brief statement from the ECsaid it has decided to "withdraw"the press note of May 16 announc-ing the elections to Rajya Sabhaseats from Goa, Gujarat and WestBengal.

It said it will announce freshdates "in due course".
