The power shut down has now been allowed on Sunday May 18, 2014. Meanwhile, in order to carry out the work of temporary shift- ing the load of 66KV Industry Feeder to 66 KV IID Feeder, the power shut down of 66 KV Industry Feeder and 66 IID Feeder has been allowed on 11- 05-2014 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and the supply to M/s Balaji will be fed from 66 KV IID feeder on temporary basis. Knit Fab Changran, Nagri, Airwan, Saidpur, Jarmal, Saktachack, Kathua City, Jakhbar, Barnoti, Palli, Nana, Janglote, Bakhata, Budhi etc and their adjoining Highlight programmes, policies of Congress: Sham to workers Excelsior Correspondent AKHNOOR, May 10: A monthly meeting of Block Congress Committee, Akhnoor was held here today under the chairmanship of local MLA and Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister exhorted upon the work- ers to work for strengthening the party at the grass root level and highlighting the programmes and policies of the Congress Party. He stressed the need for maintaining close coordination between public, workers and administration so that benefits of various programmes of the Government reach out to the needy at the grass root level. He said it is endeavour of the Congress Party to uplift the weaker sections of the society, maintaining equality and help the needy so that everyone lives a dignified life. Woman succumbs to burn injuries; family blocks NH, demands arrest of in-laws *Police registers dowry harassment, abetment to suicide case Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, May 10: People and relatives of a woman today blocked the Jammu- Pathankote National Highway near Shastri Nagar demanding arrest of the in-laws for setting the victim ablaze few days back, which led to her death at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) today. However, dowry harassment and abetting suicide case has been registered at Gandhi Nagar police station against the in-laws of the victim including husband. An irate mob along with the dead body of the deceased woman today disrupted the vehicular movement for around one hour on Jammu- Pathankote National Highway, alleging in-laws for killing the woman by setting her ablaze. The relatives and the peo- ple demanding arrest of the in- laws of the lady blocked the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway leading to long traf- fic snarls. One of the relatives while talking to Excelsior told that Asha Devi, daughter of Sham Lal, a resident of Karalia, dis- trict Samba was married to an auto driver Jasweer Singh alias Bittu, son of Jeet Raj of Roop Nagar, Digiana some 10 years back. From the wed lock, the couple had three children. He said that the in-laws use to demand more dowry and severally thrashed and beat the lady several times. Sometimes the lady would go fainted due to sever harassment, he added. “Few days back, the couple had a tiff over dowry issue and in a fit of rage, husband of the woman set her ablaze and escaped from the spot along with other family members”, he alleged. “Asha was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) with serious burn injuries, where she failed to respond to the treat- ment and succumbed to her burn injuries”, he added. “We demand immediate arrest of the culprits (in-laws) behind the death of the woman and strict punishment to them so that no one dares to do such things”, he maintained. On getting information, sen- ior police officials rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters assuring them immediate arrest of the culprits. On the assurance, the pro- testers dispersed and the vehic- ular movement was restored. As per police sources, father of the victim filed a case against the in-laws of her daughter at Gandhi Nagar police station. A case under FIR number 99/14 under Section 498 and 306 RPC has been registered against Jasweer Singh, his father Jeet Raj and mother Satya Devi. “All the accused are at large and raids were being conducted to nab them”, they added. When contacted SP South told Excelsior the victim in her statement before the Magistrate had held no one responsible for the incident. The victim in her statement stated that the inci- dent had taken place accidental- ly, SP added. When asked about the alle- gation leveled by the family members of the deceased, SP said that the “we are verifying the facts and if we find any foul play, appropriate action will be taken against the accused behind the death of the burn victim”. Governorlauds Women's Welfare Trust for promoting cause of female education Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, May 10: N.N Vohra, Governor and Usha Vohra, First Lady, visited Vasanta Girls High School, situ- ated at Sheetal Nath here. The Governor lauded the role being played by the Women's Welfare Trust in pro- moting the cause of female edu- cation in the Valley. He said that the ever since, nearly a century ago, Annie Besant laid the foun- dation stone of this school, both the Vasanta and Kashyapa Schools have come a very long way in spreading education in Srinagar, particularly among the economically weaker sections of the society. The Governor said that today, fortunately, very high importance is being devoted to educating the girl child and the Right to Education Act now pre- scribes fundamental right status to the provision of education to one and all. Appreciating the high quali- ty of the cultural programme presented by the students and the staff of both schools, the Governor announced provision of financial support of Rupees 50,000 to the Women's Welfare Trust for further promoting cul- tural activities in the schools. The Governor also presented Gauri Koul scholarships, spon- sored by Dr. U.Koul in the memory of his late mother, to three meritorious students who had achieved the top positions at the Secondary S c h o o l Examinations. The Governor, on the occasion, announced that financial support would be provid- ed to the Trust to award three more scholarships to the meritorious stu- dents of both the schools. The Governor also assured Dr. Girija Dhar, Chairperson of Women's Welfare Trust that appro- priate financial support would be provided to ensure that both the schools function satisfactorily. These included five teachers of Boys High School Natipora, one ZRP and eight ZRC's of Zonal Education Office Shadimarg. The Director also visited CEO office Pulwama, ZEO office Pulwama, Boys Higher Secondary School Pulwama, Higher Secondary School Rajpora Pulwama and found that most of the schools were functioning satis- factorily. The Director said that such sur- prise inspections would continue to bring in accountability and bet- terment in the functioning of school education system. He called upon teachers to discharge their duties with honesty and dedication so that the academic environment in the schools is brought up to the higher levels of excellence.
