• India’s 1st Indigenously Designed High Ash

Coal Gasification Based Methanol

Production Plant was inaugurated in Bharat

Heavy Electricals Limited Hyderabad,

Telangana.

• The project was supported by the

Department of Science and Technology with

a Rs 10 crore grant.

• The government of Tamil Nadu

with the TN Government to invest Rs 1000

crore in establishing a free trade

Gadkari launched ‘iRaste {Intelligent

Solutions for Road Safety through

Technology and Engineering} - a two year

pilot project in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

• It is a project developed by Intel India,

International Institute of Information

Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H), Council of

Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) –

Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), Mahindra and Mahindra and Nagpur Municipal Corporation

(NMC).

• The initiative will bring down 50 percent of road accident.

Digital Population Clock inaugurated in Delhi

• Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar, Minister of State Ministry of Health and Family Welfare inaugurated a digital population clock at the Institute for Economic Growth inside the University of Delhi.

• The Population Clock will provide a minute-by-minute estimate of the population of India.

• The clock will also help in capturing the data regarding the Infant Mortality Rate, Total Fertility Rate, and Maternal Mortality Rate.

• She also launched a book titled ‘Infant and Child Mortality In Assam – Demographic and Socio-Economic

Interrelations’ written by Dr Dipanjali Haloi and Dr Suresh Sharma and a Health Management Information System (HMIS) Brochure during the event.

Navy gives on lease Passenger Variant Dornier aircraft to Mauritius

• India handed over Indian Navy’s Dornier aircraft

to Mauritius on lease as part of Vision SAGAR (Security

and Growth for All in the Region) for enhanced maritime

security of the Indian Ocean region

• Coal India Ltd. under the Ministry of Coal, an

innovative Remotely Piloted Aircraft System was

inaugurated at Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd to

remotely monitor automated systems.

• Designed by the MCL’s Innovation Cell and the

Department of E&T, the portal named

“Vihangam’

• Pramod Agrawal, Chairman of CIL also laid the

foundation stone for Rs 285.05 crore first mile connectivity (FMC) project — Lajkura SILO.

India’s largest Open-Air Fernery in Ranikhet

• India’s largest Open-air Fernery, consisting 120 different varieties of ferns, was inaugurated in Ranikhet, Uttrakhand.

• The fernery has the largest collection of fern species, second to only Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanical Garden and Research Institute, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

• Ferns are non-flowering pteridophytes. They belong to one of the ancient groups of plants that propagate through spores.

• They are the first plants to have a fully developed vascular system.

• They help in filtering heavy metals from polluted water and the nitrogen fixation process.

Jorgensen jointly launched ‘Centre of

Excellence on Offshore Wind’ as part of the

Green Strategic Partnership during their

meeting in New Delhi.

• India has set a target of 450 Gigawatt of

renewable energy capacity by 2030.

• The two countries already have an agreement on ‘Strategic Sector Cooperation in the field of Renewable

Energy with a focus on Offshore Wind Energy’.

SBI Raised Rs 4000 crore through AT1 bonds

• State Bank of India has raised Rs 4000 crores

through the Basel Compliant Additional Tier 1

bonds at a coupon rate of 7.72%, the lowest

pricing ever offered on such debt, issued by an

Indian bank since the implementation of Basel

III capital rules in 2013.

‘Orca’- World’s Largest Plant Capturing Carbon Dioxide From Air Starts In Iceland

• The World’s Largest Plant to Capture Carbon

Dioxide from air, ‘Orca’ Starts Operating in Iceland.

• The Plant will suck in CO2 and store it

underground in the form of rock. It was started by a

Swiss startup Climeworks AG in partnership with

Icelandic carbon storage firm Carbfix.

• The plant can capture up to 4,000 tons of CO2

per year.

Earth’s Northernmost Island Off Greenland

• A team of researchers discovered a

new island, the northernmost point of land

on Earth, off the coast of Greenland during a

Danish-Swiss research expedition.

• This island was revealed by the

movement of the ice.

• The island was discovered by a group of 6

scientists, working with the Arctic Station

research facility in Greenland, who set out to

collect the samples from Oodaaq island, which was discovered by a Danish survey group in 1978.

• The researchers proposed to name the island “Qeqertaq Avannarleq”, which means ‘the northernmost

island’ in Greenlandic.

• The newly discovered island measuring around 30 by 60 metres in size is the closest point of land to the

North pole.

Eight esports included in medal events at 2022 Asian Games • For the first time in Asian games, eight

electronic sports are included in the medal events at the 19th Asian Games 2022 which are going to be held in Hangzhou, China.

• Hong Kong based Asian Electronic Sports

Federation (AESF) is appointed as the technical delegate of the esports competition.

• The AESF will manage and operate

esports competition in Hangzhou. • Earlier, esports were introduced in South Asian Games 2019 which took place in the Philippines.

Former Indian footballer Bhabani Roy passed away

• Former India international football player and Mohun Bagan legend Bhabani Roy died

• Roy joined Mohun Bagan in 1966 and played for the club till 1972

• He made his international debut in the Merdeka Cup in 1969

Former Union Minister Oscar Fernandes Passed Away

• Former Union Minister and Congress leader Oscar Fernandes passed away

• Fernandes was also a trained performer of Yakshagana, the traditional art form of coastal Karnataka.

• He served as a member of the Lok Sabha from Udupi from 1980-98, and was a member of Rajya Sabha since 1998 from Karnataka.

• As a Union minister in the UPA government, Mr. Fernandes held the portfolios of Road Transport and Highways, Labour and Employment, Statistics and Programme Implementation and Overseas Affairs both as a Cabinet Minister and Minister of State.

• He has also served as the Chairman of the Central Election Authority of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

• He is the founder of the ” Jolly Club” NGO.

• He was the Director of the Young Indian and Director of the Associated Journals Private limited.
