Crude stocks fall unexpectedly as imports drop

Gold surrendered gains to fall 3.5 percent on Wednesday as above-consensus U.S.

economic data lifted stock markets, prompting some investors to cash in this month's

hefty gains ahead of a keenly awaited central bank gathering this week. Copper rose on

Wednesday after orders for long-lasting U.S. manufactured goods rose more than

expected, but gains were capped as the dollar rose and markets awaited a U.S. Federal

Reserve speech on Friday. U.S. crude oil stocks fell last week on a drop in imports, while

petroleum product stocks rose as refiners boosted output, U.S. Energy Information

Administration data showed on Wednesday.
