5.4 Safety Laws and directives are in force to ensure the safety of machines which interact with human beings- e.g. the EC machinery directive (ECMD). Festo's solutions for safety functions can help to ensure the safety of your system. After the risk assessment has been carried out, Festo supports you with technical safety measures:

• Safety sensors on the input level • Safety controls on the processing level (logic) • Protective measures on the output level

The Sistema software is only a tool for performing the safety engineering evaluations. To do this, it uses databases with safety-related specifications for products and solutions. There are numerous links to libraries on the website of the IFA. The library of Festo's safety engineering coefficients is available as a download on Festo's website:

5.9 Festo Design Tool 3D Quick, reliable, automated generation and ordering of product modules in your CAD format The Festo Design Tool 3D is a 3D product configurator for generating Festo-specific CAD product combinations. Your search for matching accessories, e.g. for pneumatic cylinder series DSBC, DSNU and ADN, will thus be faster, more reliable and easier in the future. Advantages for design, purchasing and commissioning:

• Quick and simple automated generation of product combinations • Short bills of materials, fewer sources of error and optimized ordering processes thanks to a single order code for the entire assembly • Native CAD models for retaining CAD/component links • (CAD-Constraints, CAD-Mates) • Reduced documentation effort and simple traceability:

generate PDF assembly drawings and bills of materials within FDT 3D and query the traceable order code in the Support Portal • Simplified, accelerated processes in the warehouse and during assembly • Product portfolio for readily available standard components such as cylinders from the DSBC, DSNU and ADN series

5.13 Industry 4.0 Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things (IoT) impresses Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and end users alike. Production and the digital world come together, making factory automation more flexible, increasing energy efficiency, linking logistics processes more closely, optimizing the value chain – and all this is happening in process automation too. The Internet of Things (IoT), smart factories, cyber-physical systems and big data are driving the project of the future - solutions must be ever faster, more diverse, more flexible and more intelligent. Calls for greater availability, energy efficiency and just-in-time production are becoming louder. Festo is playing a major role in shaping the Industry 4.0 trend, and emphasizes the following aspects in particular: Politics and standardization: Festo is a member of the "Industry 4.0" initiative of the German Federal Government and is involved in all key standards associations and initiatives on this topic.
