It is always a pleasure to serve with the Dauphin and DistrictCommunity Foundation. It has been my privilege to serve asPresident for this year. The format for my remarks will encom-pass some of those frequently asked questions we receive frompeople about the work and purpose of the Foundation.

1. What is the main purpose of the DDCF?The Community Foundation exists to raise, invest and grantfunds through community leadership, education and effectivepartnerships thereby enhancing the quality of life for our com-munity. That is our mission and we work diligently to carry it outeach day. We are here to serve our community.

2. If you already have $2 million in endowed funds, why do you still need to continue raising funds?

That figure generates about $ 80,000 per year in revenue that wein turn invest back into our community through the annual grant-ing process. The math is easy, the more we raise the more we cangrant into worthwhile community projects and purposes. Weonly spend the interest generated by the endowed funds, and thelatter is never touched or spent. Our current goal is to reach $5million. That amount would provide us with approximately$200,000.00 in interest for granting purposes. 3. What happens to the money I donate to the Community

Foundation? Our endowed funds are invested through one of the largest andthe oldest community foundations in Canada, the WinnipegFoundation. With over $ 507 million in assets and an annualgranting rate of over $21 million, we trust the WinnipegFoundation to know how to best invest our own foundationfunds. They just provide a better rate of return than we couldobtain anywhere else. 4. Who decides where the money goes? Each year the DDCF receives grant applications from a multi-tude of organizations in our community. Our board of Directorsgives due diligence to every application in the form of completeand current information, as well as conducting personal inter-views with representatives of each applicant organization. Uponbeing thoroughly informed we then make our decisions as towhere the money goes.5. Does all the money I donate stay with the Dauphin and

District Community Foundation?Yes. As mentioned we invest our funds through the WinnipegFoundation, but at all times our Board of Directors has the man-agement and jurisdiction of those funds. Only the proceeds gen-erated from the investments are spent in the city and rural munic-ipality of Dauphin. 6. Where do most of the donations come from?We are fortunate in that since our inception in l996 the assets ofthe CF have been built upon continuous donations from peoplein all walks of life. While we have had a few large bequests anddonations, it is the flow of smaller donations that sustains andbuilds our operation. It always amazes me that more people eachyear think of the CF and fulfill their desires to make ours a bet-ter community by donations of a few dollars, a few hundred, andyes even a few thousand. It just adds up to a very broad crosssection of our community stepping up to the challenge.

I leave you with the challenge to not leave us out of yourthoughts and planning. We will reach our goal of $5 million andyou will see what a difference your donations both large andsmall can make to our community. Thank you for placing yourtrust and confidence in us.

William Hart, President.

DAUPHIN & DISTRICT COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

ANNUAL REPORT - MAY 6, 2014

EVENTSLast year, DDCF held our annual event, once again, as a Fundraiser. The event was titled, "AnEvening With the Beatles"! This event was again a success, as it brought the Foundation addedawareness and money to add to our Endowment. In attendance, were approximately 160 peoplewho each bought tickets for $45. The goal for this event was to do something exciting to promotethe Foundation. The Beatles Band from Brandon, Manitoba came out and played their familiarsongs for our crowd for three hours! The atmosphere was lively and exciting! Many of the guestswere drawn to the dance floor for the majority of the night! We had Rae & Myra's Homestyle Cateringprovide appetizers to the crowd, similarly to the previous year. We also had Signature Beatie drinks,a photo-booth set up, and unique decor to outfit our venue! Our Ticketed Auction was again suc-cessful, we had received donations from various community businesses: Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy,Canadian Tire, Dean Cooley's GM, Kelleher Ford, Super Thrifty Pharmacy, and Home Hardware. Inthe end, we managed to profit $3,297.73.

The Philanthropist of the Year Award was given to an outstanding family in our community, Mel andAnthony Weins - who were both present and very unsuspecting ofthis honor!

We had a great team this year with Events organization - Sara and Rena greatly contributed to thisevent for which I am grateful! The remainder of our Board Members volunteered selling drink/prizetickets for the evening. It was great to see everyone pull together as a team! For this coming year,Sara has agreed to lead the Events team, and I am excited to help her in any way I can!

Youth in PhilanthropyWhere will the next

generation of philan-thropists come from? The obvious answer isfrom the youth.

YIP (Youth inPhilanthropy) is thedonation of time, ener-gy and resources by ouryouth towards philan-thropic causes. TheYIP program encour-ages young people toengage in social changeand empowers them toparticipate in the grow-ing of our compassion-ate community.

The local YIP pro-gram runs out of theDRCSS. It is designedto introduce local highschool students to vol-unteerism, grant writ-ing and communityservice. The YIP groupvolunteers their timeand energy throughoutthe year, both internally

within their school andthroughout the commu-nity. They volunteerwith non-profit organi-zations like theCanadian DiabetesAssociation, MSSociety, the CanadianTire Jump StartProgram, and our localbreakfast and foodbank programs.

During the2013/2014 school year, the YIP members soldcookies for Valentine’sDay, the proceeds wentto performing randomacts of kindness, likebuying lunch to thosein need. They partici-pated in “We areSilent”. Funds raisedfrom this event went toeducation across theworld. They also helda variety night, whereall proceeds wenttowards two scholar-

ships at Grad andbought two fruit treesfor the new communitygarden.

In June 2013, YIPgranted $3500 to non-profit organizationswithin our community.$1500 was granted toHenderson School fortheir new play struc-ture, $1000 was grant-ed to the DRCSSEducation Club for out-door camping equip-

ment, and $1000 wasgranted to Zirka fornew dance costumes.

The vision of theDDCF is to enhancequality of life in ourcommunity. The YIPparticipants have trulyproven themselves asyoung philanthropistswho are making theworld around them abetter place, and areundeniably helping torealize this vision.
