ENCOURAGEMENT...One evening while a man was driving down acountry road, he lost control of his car and wound up in a ditch. He walked tothe closest farmhouse and asked for help pulling the car out. The farmer said,"Sure. Let me hitch up Dusty and you'll be out in no time." Afew minutes laterthe former appeored with Dusty—an old, swaybacked, almost blind mule. After Dusty was hitched to the car, the old farmer cracked the whip and said,"Pull, Buck, pull." Nothing happened. The farmer cracked the whip again andsaid, "Pull, Clyde, pull." Nothing happened. He cracked the whip again andsaid, "Pull, Dusty, pull." Dusty began to pull until finally the car was out of theditch. The man thanked the farmer, then said, "But I'm really curious. If yourmule's name is Dusty, why did you say 'Pull, Buck' and 'Pull Clyde'?" Theformer said, "Well, you know Dusty's old and he doesn't see too good, and hedoesn't have much confidence. If he thought he had to do all the work himself,he'd never even try."

The wisest man who ever lived wrote these words... Though a righteousman falls seven times, he rises again, but the wicked are brought down by
calamity. (Proverbs 24:16) You may have a String of strikeouts behind you,and you may feel as though you're on the verge of setting the world's recordfor failure. Keep stepping up to the plate. No matter how many times youmiss. If you keep swinging you'll eventually make contact.

fM 6ot>- Reaching New Levels in our Walk with God -
Focus
The series will focus on physicaljourneys in The Old Testament, and drawlessons for our walk with God. It is intended to inspire us to reach newlevels in our relationship with God.
Foundational Statements
The lessons are based on the following premises : -• That there are higher levels that we can attain in our walk with God.
Higher levels in our faith, in our prayer life, in our worship, in ourprayer life, in our serving, etc are possible.
• Spiritual Growth is possible.• Progress is expected and encouraged in the Word of God.• New levels in our relationship witli God are attainable.• The joum^ is ongoing. It only stops when we reach heaverL
Related Concepts1. A JoumQr is moving from point A to point B [progress]2. Some basic associations are experiences [good + bad], changes,
processing [allowing new experiences to become a part of who you are+ letting go off some old ideas], we grow in wisdom [our choicesimprove; gain new strategy for life], and we will face battles [many arewithin us]
3. This journey of life will reveal [sooner or later] that a lot of things areeasier said than done. We should be carefiil on condemning; quick tolisten + slow to speak. We learn solidarity with others on the journey.
The Model1. The incident in 2 Kings 2, which tells ofElisha following Elijah.2. They went from Gilgal to Bethel to Jericho to the Jordan.3. Gilgal = Memorial stones, symbolic of wonderful memories + great
testimonies.
4. Bethel = House of God, symbolic of corporate worship experiences5. Jericho = first victory in tlie Promised Land, symbolic of great
victories in the past.6. Jordan = place of blessings.
7. Elijah asks Elisha what he wants after they cross the Jordaa Elisha hadproven his faithfulness + commitment. As we prove our faithfulness -we can ask for big things. God rewards faith.
8. Key Statement = "Where is the God of Elijah?"9. Elisha was not chasing after Elijah, was not obsessed with him, or
wanted to be a copycat of him. Elisha was chasing after God'sblessings. Elisha wanted the power + anointing of God like Elijah had.
10. Elisha went beyond the obstacles = the comments of the sons of theprophets [implied that he was on a wasted journey], Elijah [seemedbent on losing him], the inner struggles [doubts, questions, fears], thejourney itself. Many things came against him to quench his passion, tocounter his passion, to stifle his passion for God, but he pressed on.
11. He received a double portion anointing that Elijah had.
APPLICATION1. God wants us to go beyond the wonderful memories, past victories, and
Church-only worship life. He is the God of the Present + He is presenteverywhere. He wants to bless us today + lead us into a lifestyle ofworship. Fresh blessings + fresh encounters.
2. We seek not to be imitations / copycats of David + Solomon + Daniel +Moses, etc. But we seek to know God like they did, to worship God, toexperience God + to hear God's voice; to love God ...like they did.
3. Many things come against to make us feel that God is unknowable, thatthis Christian life is unattainable, that God's power is impossible in ourlives, that the Word of God is not doable...
4. Key Lesson = Passion for God. We need passion for God.5. Passion is not a mediocre word, not a quiet or dull word. It is not a
common, ordinary or mundane concept. Instead it is a hot burning, fiery word. It moves us, it excites us, and it thrills us.
6. Let's be willing to go to any lengths to know God, to encounter-God, toplease + honor God. Passion goes beyond the limitations + boimdaries.
7. Don't be satisfied with a stale testimony, with a corporate Christianilyonly, with memories of past victories. Strive to know God today, everyday, to know God better, to love God more.
8. Passion keeps our relationship with God fresh + exciting + progressive.PRAYER = May God give us a new passion for His Word, for Hisheart, for His Voice, for worship, for prayer, for serving, for souls, forloving Him with all of our heart, soul, mind, + body. May this journeycause our passion for Gk)dto increase everyday. May all the Promises +Blessing in the Word of God become a reality in our lives.
