Hello Division 05 South Trojans! What has everyone been up to during this lovely time of summer vacation? Whether it be hanging out with your friends, taking trips with your family, or even just sitting in your room doing those summer assignments, I am sure most of you are having the best time of your lives! However, don’t forget to also utilize this time to plan towards Key Club along with serving your community!

Also, I would like to thank you all for attending our July DCM and our car wash for Pediatric Trauma Program. I had a blast and I hope all those that attended did as well. There are many more upcoming division events and I hope to see many faces from D05 South there! Tin addition, throughout this newsletter, you will notice that there are quite a lot of great news and important dates, so before you go any further, grab a paper and a pen and prepare to write down those important dates and reminders! And this is to all officers, please check your emails daily! Other than that, have a wonderful rest of your summer vacation!

S On Wednesday, July 10th, 5 out of 7 clubs within Division 05 South attended their Division Council Meeting at CVS Pharmacy’s parking space right before the car wash for PTP. The DCM started around 12pm and 4 members from D46S also attended this meeting. Everyone shared a lot of ideas and laughter throughout the whole meeting.

Continuing on after the DCM, many Key Clubbers stayed to help out at the very first PTP car wash for D05S. Those Key Clubbers started at 1:00 p.m. and stayed until 5:00 p.m. The temperature was around 100 degrees that day, but that did not stop the full enthusiasm for service of those Key Clubbers. Members/officers washed and dried the cars, while advisors helped keep records of the money and donations. Each Key Clubber brought a big load of car wash equipment along with their spirit to serve. Everyone took turn holding posters at the busy corners to hook drivers to come wash their cars. Altogether, the carwash raised $170 and that fund will be donated to the Pediatric Trauma Program in efforts of saving children’s lives. It only took one car at a time.

San Joaquin River Cleanup Alexis Moran | Bullard High School

Now that daily activities such as attending school has ended, Bullard Key Club has had more than enough time to give back to our community. On June 29, Bullard Key Club President, Alexis Moran, as well as three Bullard Key Clubbers and our advisor, Mr. Mike Berdinella, teamed up with Hoover Key Clubbers and Kiwanian members to clean up our local San Joaquin River. With the help of River Tree Volunteers, Bullard and Hoover as well as our fellow Kiwanians spent six hours floating down the river picking up trash and cleaning up the river to make our environment a better place.

In the middle of their six hour trip, during lunch, Bullard Key club held a joint meeting with guests from Kiwanis as well as the current and former presidents of Hoover Key Club on the banks of the river. During this lunchtime meeting, we gladly took a vote and happily decided to donate $1,200 to River Tree Volunteers to buy two brand new canoes. These canoes will proudly bare the name of our fellow Kiwanis Club. This river trip was not only a delight because we were able to serve our community, but also because Hoover, Kiwanis, and us had genuine fun splashing around and enjoying the cool river environment on a hot, sunny, summer day in Fresno.

This was not the first time this year that we had helped out on the river; in fact it was our third time. In the future, Bullard Key Club will definitely help clean up the river again and just as we have volunteered with Hoover, we welcome any other key clubs in our division to join us in serving our local community.

River Cleanup Training PTP Carwash Tiffany Banuelos| Kingsburg High School

!The PTP carwash was hot, but very enjoyable. For instance, as a single member attending this event from Kingsburg High School, which the school locates the farthest distance from many other schools, there were people I did not know from different schools that are also involved Key Club and I’m so glad I’ve gotten the chance to meet them. Everyone was helping out throughout this whole car wash, we took shifts on doing the advertising and washing the cars. When we felt the wrath of the heat we just had someone spray us with the water, especially when we were dancing with the signs and trying to get the drivers’ attentions to go wash their cars.

While we were working, we all started to get to know one another, created friendships while raising money for a great cause. By the end of the day I believe everyone had gotten to know one another, or had gotten to know one another EVEN BETTER. Even the people whose cars were already clean came to just donate to PTP and get their car washed. It felt amazing doing something right for other people other than just for yourself.

With all the hard work and laughter we did work up an appetite and I want to thank Lt. Governor Tina for making and bringing food and snack for everyone. Also bringing the tables and chairs, we all do appreciate her doing that for us. Everyone had a blast while trying to raise money to reduce the number of children who have been affected by the trauma. I could honestly say that it was a successful event; I had created many new friends and many great memories along with saving many lives. I am definitely planning to get more involve with many future division events and will definitely try to bring more members from Kingsburg to also get involve and help our community, and to continue on being a part of Key Club.

On June 14th, a group of Edison High Key Club students traveled down to Lost Lake to begin their river cleanup training. The students included: Mario Vargas; Hailey Stinecipher; AJ Bassil, a graduated Key Clubber; Sidney and Sean Ezenwugo; and Eric Reynoso.

With the help of adult trainers, the students learned the basics of maneuvering a two-man canoe such as moving in all directions, getting the boat in and out of the lake, and picking up trash with the oar. At some point, the trainers instructed for each of the students to flip the boat upside down and jump into the lake. Mario and a few other members were reluctant to take the plunge, so they ended up receiving unexpected aid from Eric. The water was freezing cold, making it a struggle to wade back to shore.

All of the tasks were challenging, but once the members got the hang of it, it became a fun experience. Races were held to see who had the best technique, and they also played a game of ball tag. The next time they head back down there, these Edison Key Club members will be qualified and prepared to start their cleaning jobs around the lake.

Region Training Conference (RTC)

D05 South’s next DCM is a social event where we will be having a potluck and for all members to bring any type of food they’d like to share with other members and get to know everyone within the division. Let’s get to know each other better before school starts! When: August 14th, 2013 What time: Around 5pm to 7pm Where: TBA [Lt. Governor Tina is still trying to finalize a location that is centralize for all members throughout the division to easily attend. S August DCM/Potluck

Region Training Conference is a conference for all members in our region to attend. This is a great opportunity to meet new Key Clubbers in our area, learn new skills and have fun while doing it! We are in Region 12, which is consisted Division 46 North and South, and Division 05 North and South. When attending, you will meet Key Clubbers from Clovis/Fresno area up to Key Clubbers in Modesto! How cool is that?!

When: August 24th, 2013 What time: 8am-3pm Where: Livingston High School in Livingston, CA Transportation: Buses will be available for both Clovis/Fresno area Key Club and there will be an entrance fee ALL Key Clubbers are encourage to attend! !

S Fall Rally is an event to celebrate the raising of our PTP (Pediatric Trauma Program) funds and also the time to collect all we made from various service projects that has happened before Fall Rally. At Fall Rally, LTGs and Executive officers are "auctioned" off to Divisions; the winning Division is able to then spend a designated period of time with the "purchased" officer. Auction funds and a portion of the ticket sales for both events go towards the PTP.

This event will take place at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom!

All Key Clubbers are encourage to go. This will be a fun and once in a

lifetime opportunity for you to meet Key Clubbers from all over Northern

California. It will be LOUD, CRAZY, AND FUL WITH SPIRIT!

More details will be provided when the event gets closer. But s of right

now, please keep this in your head!

Division 05 Trojans last year at Fall Rally. Every one was very

pumped up and everyone’s spirit went above and BEEyond! It was loud, it was crazy, and it was a

total BLAST!

The GOLDEN Goals are… •  As ONE District, our aim is 46,000 members. •  As divisions, we want to work towards

contributing to a goal of $150,000 for PTP. •  As clubs we want to come together to serve

1,000,000 hours of service. •  And as an individual member, we each want

EDUCATION What is PTP? Pediatric Trauma is an unintentional injury that remains the #1 killer of children age 14 and under in the U.S. The Pediatric Trauma Program works to raise money to help save children from the trauma by providing advanced pediatric training and purchasing pediatric medical equipment. All of these could only happen with our help by raising funds, whether it be by your own club or the whole division.

What is MNT? Maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) is a horrible disease that can

quickly turn the joy of childbirth into tragedy. MNT kills one baby every nine minutes, that's 60,000 babies every year who will never have the opportunity to grow up, create laughter and memories,

play with friends nor dream about their future. Its effects are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions

and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. There is little hope of survival. And tetanus kills mothers too. MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil everywhere, come into contact with open cuts

during childbirth. The disease strikes the poorest of the poor, the geographically hard to reach and those without health care.

Important Projects You and Your Club REALLY Should Fundraise FOR…

-  PTP: Save Children’s lives and have money to turn in at Fall Rally

-  MNT: By raising and donating $1.80 to The Eliminate Project, you will save a mother and her future babies from MNT in the less developed countries.

When you and your club execute a service event or a fundraiser towards each of the above or maybe all of them, you are doing Key Club right. With enough fund raised for Fall Rally or DCON, you will never going to miss an apportunity of a life time! With the fund raised for PTP and MNT, you are making a difference in this world. Let’s give back together. Don’t forget to reflect on our District goals!
