History• Founded in 1989 – Meet the need for
education among the Sámi people.
• The Nordic Sámi Institute (1973), established in 1973 as a result of Sámi cultural-political endeavours in the Nordic countries, merged with Sámi University College in 2005.
Today• Funded directly by the ministry of education
and research , Nordic Council of ministers and external projects
• We follow the norwegian system of accreditation (NOKUT)
• Pan-sami board with member external members appointed by the Sámi parliament
