Introducation Bangladesh is a disaster prone country.
Twelve districts of the costal area are highly vulnerable to cyclone and storm surge. Bangladesh government has taken five measures to mitigate the risk of cyclone.
1.Vulnerability and Risk analysis.2.Deposit early and essential relief materials
to the vulnerable area. 3.Information management.4.Early preparedness in the local area.5.Resource collection.

• Total Number of existing Cyclone Shelters: 3975
• Required Cyclone Shelter 5,500 (approximately)
1) Cyclone shelters built mainly as multipurpose shelters, school, health center, community center
2) These are usually concrete building built on pillars
3) Water surge to pass bellow there structure
4) A shelter accommodate 6oo to 2000 people

Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP)
In close association with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, the DMRD is implementing Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP) in the 12 costal districts and 37 upazillas of the country to minimize loss of lives and properties in cyclone disaster by strengthening the disaster management capacity of coastal people of Bangladesh.
