    What we ProvideA solution to efficiently and economically handleNetwork Data within your enterprise.To address clients problems where traditionalRDBMS Database applications and appliancessolutions fall short in offering agility and flexibility.Enabling telco, finance, government and retailenvironments to dynamically access informationin near real-time where previously it was lockedaway for over-nite processing.Clean, common format data is what all yourbusiness systems need.We provide that.

    The Original ChallengeStarted with a blank page....The Problem:About 3 years ago, Oracle was just too slow to handle thevolume of event transactions (almost 1 Billion per day) whichwas increasing month on month. Only small space for hardwarewas available. The user needed access to data in near real-timeand expected query responses in < 1minute drawing against 6months of historic data (approx 180 Billion records).To maintain Raw Data integrity and granularity. AND the userhad no suitable system admin skills to do periodic maintenance.What resulted was a software framework that included looselycoupled, modular generic functions incorporating; Effective Source Data Acquisition Rules & Indexing engines Storage (Data Store) A query engine A data output / distribution component And a simple user GUI + command line interface

    Event Record Management

    Event Records (CDR, IPDR) are BIG DATA in Telcos.Customer activity generates Hundreds of Millions orBILLIONS of transactions per day in many Telcos.Billing is the mission critical function of CDRs but mostTelco business divisions and non-critical systems stilllack access these in near Real-Time. The customersexperience is locked in this BIG DATA. Why?Problems / Difficulties & OpportunitiesLegacy Mediation systems, evolutionary growth of processingcapacity limitations, policy concerning access to missioncritical systems and the architecture of the OSS do not lendthemselves to be flexible or agile. They are traditionalstovepipe facilities that Do what they Do well but dontexpect them the adapt to new business drivers.

    What is an EVENT RECORD

    The CDR (Call Detail Record) is the best example of anEvent Record in the Telco world.

    BUT these days the telco network is used for muchmore than just CALLS so the term CDR is no longeradequate to describe transactional events.CDRs contain a lot of detail, this is a sub-set

  • Slide: 9Slide 9

    Network Transactions containSubscriber Event Records

    Business systems process these Subscriber Events to obtainvarying output information that supports business processes.

    Primary function of CDRs was traditionally for Billing & ChargingEvent Records are now the source for many other purposes;

    The Primary Issues CWD Address Network transaction volumes toolarge to handle for non-missioncritical applications (BSS)

    Unpredictable in future growth

    Business units want low latencydata availability, near real-time

    Multiple source formats(2G, 2.5G, 3G, Switch models)

    Legacy functions becominginadequate for new demands

    Provisioning & Mediation isbusiness critical

    Capable to passively ingest andprocess Billions of events per day Scalable expansion, hardwareagnostic, expand as required Near Real-Time data flow can pushvariable data formats to multiplerecipients, lowest latency achieved Convert binary to ASCII, thenmake common format, raw data Hybrib solutions enable the re-utilisation of legacy systems andthus defer new investments Passive extraction, no disruptionto mission critical process, enhancesall non-mission critical businesssystems, provides clean andconsistent data source

    CWD Provides;

  • Slide: 11Slide 11

    The CWD methodology (flexible options)

    Mediation systems were designed for Billing & Charging, a mission critical process.Many telcos now have multiple Mediation systems. Connections are not easily made to suchmission critical systems, and nor should they be. Business need the data OUT more rapidly.

    CWD provides a data buffer + router + store + distributor of network data

  • Slide: 12Slide 12

    CWD ArchitectureLoosely coupled componentsETL, Database, Query, Result

    What makes CWD so differentfrom a traditional RDBMS?Primarily, all the unwantedoverhead is removed.

    Imagine you only had to use thefunctions you actually use instead ofan All-in packaged database. Imaginecomponents can be decoupled, run onsuitably sized hardware and locatedwhere you need them.

    e.g. Input can be scaled tomeet performance rqmts.Storage can expand asrequired, query engine scaledto meet user demands

    Network Events RepositoryPrimary Benefits to Telco

    Network Events Repository (NER) facility allows variousbusiness units to use the best-of-breed tools with the option toeasily migrate to another solutions in the future

    Replay HISTORY able to re-run historical transactions as itoriginally occurred. This is a very powerful capability and allowsNetwork Data to be managed as a valuable Enterprise asset.

    Business units have the option to define their own requirementson the mode and format data is provided. Custom reports andalerts can be easily generated or provided in standard outputs.

    Draw upon the same source data, available in near-real timemaintaining data integrity and reducing information latencyenabling dynamic business decisions to be made.

    Legacy or Supplementary data can be added as required.Adding Location enable deployment of geo-spatial applications

  • Slide: 14Slide 14

    Application of Access Security and Data Retentionpolicies are easily configured, maintained and implemented

    Ideal data store for those many AUDIT LOG filesgenerated by almost every business application. Thearchitecture is ideal to suited to receiving batched files andprovides support engineers a rapid query search tool

    Data Retention is a basic feature and provides a veryeconomic means to keep ALL data types for YEARS on disc.The CWD solution can forward clean data an existing DataWarehouse with options for Analytics and Location basedmodules allowing selection of best-of-breed businesssolution preferences. Or it can be the Data Warehouse.

    Scalable Architecture is another huge value provided.Start small, expand in line with business needs andeconomic factors. Hardware agnostic, with storage capableto be direct attached, NAS or Cloud. Fully MPP enabled.

    Added Value & Benefits ofThe Network Events Repository

    Location Compliance A solution that complies with the government directiveissued May 2011. The method provided is Link Aggregator-IntelligentLocation Caching with Continuous Location Technology Utilises the telcos existing infrastructure to reduce cost Collects data from; A- Abis / IuCS IuPS - Iub Gi, Gn,Gp, Gb, Gy interfaces The solution allows for various options for the carrier toimplement revenue generating incentives, such as;

    Network OptimisationHome Zone BillingLBS (opt-in) Advertising

  • Slide: 16Slide 16

    Network Assurance +Customer Experience A facility to discover and passively extract selectedcustomer events in the telco operational network Rapidly identify, alert and enable NOC engineers to resolvepotential issues before they become serious outages A facility to assist to assure the quality and performance ofIP services, a means to apply DPI and establish KPI triggersand alerts. A facility to store (mass data) and redistribute (data flow) toBSS / down-line business applications in near-real time.Ensuring data integrity and consistency across the primarybusiness applications.A near-real time audit control tool to monitor networkanomalies and report through MIS to internal Audit
