PSST! Here is a hint…..

• When writing the newspaper article, it should be written in paragraph form.

• Like all news pieces, answer the who, what when, where, why and how of the event. Also, draw the reader into the article immediately.

• The who?, what?, when?, where?, why? and how? are the concrete details or textual evidence of the piece. Return to the text for facts and quotes to answer these questions.

Day 2 RevisionCheck the paper for any of the linking verbs listed below. Circle any that are present.

Day #2 Revision and Editing

Handout1. Skip every other line. Don’t write on the back.

2. Give the article a catchy title.

3. Create a by line under title (in addition to MLA) ex: “This Joker Is No Laughing Matter” By, Sue Jones

4. Begin the article with an attention grabber. It should be the most shocking detail.

5. Improve word choice by using 6 words from the bank. (see to the right)

6. It must be exactly 121 words long.

7. Eliminate linking verbs by half.
