The aims of these projects are to design a public space in two different sites in Philadelphia. The first location is an unused empty space in a public school. Concept of the first site is trying to create a playground for the students during school time whereas after school time, it turns into a public park for the neighborhood. Additionally, this design is trying to harvest rain water for better hydrology management and act as water absorption space for the surrounding area.

The second location has been a public space for several years but it was not well maintained. The project is trying to introduce the water based activities as a main concept in the design. Lack of access is the main problem of this public space. As a solution, this design tries to create multiple clear accesses for the people. Besides, this design tries to bring back the function of the site, as a public space, and contribute in providing positive activity for the neighborhood community. For instance, swimming community has always been a pride for the Philadelphia citizens.

The main concept from this building is to create a house with low energy consumption. That is why there are many windows and doors in this house. Not only to use sun light as a “natural lamp”, but also to use air circulation as a “natural fan” for this building. The big garden in this house is used to grow trees which are very important for environment. First floor of this house is for public and family area and the second floor is for private area. Most of house material is made from used material, such as used wood for the doors, windows, and floor.

This building has three areas, public, semi-public, and private area. It is because this building is not only used as a house, but also used as a boutique. The corner house usually gets a bigger area. It could be more potential to design a comfortable house with maximal use of lighting, circulation and landscape. The mass of this house is designed to support the circulation and the use of natural lighting. First floor contains two areas that divided by semi- public area and the second floor is contains of bedrooms and private livingroom. Bamboo and wood are the main material in this building which is used to separate the area. Other material in this house is glass, it is because the glass is the material that completes the house to expose the environment around the house.

“Breathing” house in this case is an analogy, like a breathing man that breathes the air. This analogy equated with the house that breathes the sunlight. Thus, this house is expected will be healthier. Air flows freely, because of continued room, with the hollow partition. This is allowing the air to move. The inner could be very helpful to create a fresh air inside the house. Credit : Denny S

The main issue is to create a hotel in the middle of Yogyakarta city, which is a very crowded area. To create a good circulation inside and outside the hotel is the main concern in this design. The main concept of this hotel is connection and circulation. It means that the hotel must have connection with the neighborhood, but it also has to control that connection. The circulation was designed to make the hotel more comfortable with the separation of public, semi public, and worker circulation
