Pink City Entertainment started out as a division of the Toyl (Time of Your Life) Events organization based in Atlanta, Ga. Pink City Ent was created to serve and empower all women and has delivered fun, excit-ing, cutting-edge, alternative events that women in Atlanta really en-joy. The Company has been the driving force behind the country’s most exciting ladies night out event called the Exclusive “For Who I Am” Bachelorette Expo, which has become the largest and first giant public Bachelorette party. This exciting event features sexy lingerie fashion shows, pole dance classes, spa & beauty services, shopping, leading novelties, accessories vendors, games, food, drinks, a male revue and much more. Pink City Entertainment is the sister company to the popular Project Curve Appeal Movement, which is the brain child of Toyl Events. Pink City Entertainment co-produces several beauty, fashion, health and wellness events along with the Project Curve Appeal Movement and is very active within the community. What sets Pink City Ent apart from Project Curve Appeal is that it caters to women of all sizes and addition-ally provides entertaining activities for men. In 2010, Toyl Events made a bold move by shutting down their social events department and merged Toyl Events with Pink City Ent to create

the ultimate event and entertainment powerhouse company that will be solely known as the New Pink City Ent. Following in the footsteps of Project Curve Appeal, Pink City has become national and has started new divisions all over the country. Pink City Entertainment will continue to produce hot events that are uplifting, empowering, com-munity focused, provide a networking atmosphere, and exposure opportunities, while offering fun, excitement and entertainment. In addition to events, Pink city Ent also offers design and marketing services through it’s affiliate com-pany, Digime Marketing and Talent and Model Management Services through Protégée Management Group also known as PMG.

Project Curve Appeal is so proud to introduce to the world, Mrs. Juanita Patterson! In August of 2010, Juanita joined the organization as the City Movement Manager for the Austin chapter. With her excellent leadership and business skills, she quickly moved up the ranks and was promoted to the position of National Execu-tive Director. She brings more than 15 years of experience creating and coordinat-ing special events and has been a leader in her community. Juanita has helped take the FOCA sisterhood to the next level in so many ways.

We believe Juanita has found her niche in the Project Curve Appeal family. Her planning expertise is so beneficial, and she strives to make every event she is a part of a special and memorable one. Her passion for empowering women around the world is inspiring to all the ladies of the curvy movement.

Mrs. Patterson is one of the most fierce and kindest extraordinary women one

could ever meet. Project Curve Appeal is pleased and blessed to have her as a part

of our family.

I began my journey with Pro-

ject Curve Appeal in May of

2009. I attended my first event

in Atlanta, GA as a 100 FOCA

finalist for the 100 FOCA pro-

ject. This project was the

launch of having Spokes Mod-

els for the movement nation-

wide.

I spent 3 days in the state’s

capitol. My weekend consisted

of networking, parties, photo

shoots, shopping, fashion

shows, and an orientation telling us what would be required of us

once we were chosen as a Face of Curve Appeal (FOCA).

Once the weekend was over, we had another 2 weeks before we

knew if we were chosen to carry the torch of being the first Spokes

Models outside of Atlanta to help promote the movement. Needless

to say, I was very happy to get my acceptance email. I immediately

began building my team of National Spokes Models for the Augusta,

GA area. Continued….

Recently, several people have been inquiring about the women behind the PCA Movement. Many people aren’t aware that other

than the Director of Operations (Bev Wilson), there are two other women that hold the national positions. There is the remark-

able Daphne S. Ali, who is the National Model Director and Juanita Patterson, who is the National Executive Director. Daphne has

a long history with PCA so we thought it would be fun to allow her to share her PCA story. This is what she told us...

I’ve been with the organization almost 2 years, and

the self fulfillment I get from being a part of some-

thing so meaningful goes beyond words. Being a part

of such a sisterhood not only has enabled me to meet

other women like myself, but it has allowed me to be

an inspiration to women who aren’t quite comfort-

able with their size.

Within 2 years of being involved in Project Curve Ap-

peal, I now serve on the National Board as National

Model Director. I teach several classes within the or-

ganization such as but not limited to, runway 101,

model etiquette, and our FOCA etiquette class as well.

I am also one of the administrators for our training

camps for incoming spokes models (FACE Camps).

Although being a part of the organization provides

exposure for my modeling career, by participating in

photo shoots, fashions shows, and being a spokes

person… the greatest joy is being able to touch the

lives of other plus size women.

When CAC asked owner Susie Simpkins, how and why she opened Embellish Plus

Boutique, this is what she had to say......

"I have loved fashion ever since I was a teenager. Being plus-size, growing up it was

really hard to find cute, trendy, and inexpensive clothing. Everything out there was

either way too expensive for my budget or just looked too old for my taste. I always

knew I wanted to do something to make my mark in the plus-size industry. Because I

felt like there could be MORE out there for Plus-Size girls than what was being of-

fered. I knew I wasn't the only plus-size teenager out there with this problem. It was

right after high school that I decided I wanted to go to Fashion School and try to

make a difference.

In 2005 I graduated with a B.A. in Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing. After col-

lege I really didn’t do much with my degree. I continued to work different Retail jobs.

I always worked in Plus-Size stores, since that was my passion. I got very familiar with

how the Retail/Fashion Plus-Size Industry worked. I knew one day I wanted to either

have MY own store or design MY own line. But it wasn’t until 2010 that I finally put

all my thoughts and ideas together and decided that is was NOW time to take action.

Plus-size model, actress, motivational speaker, and radio show host

Chenese Lewis dishes about the Plus-size industry , her successful ca-

reer, and her major upcoming projects.

Chenese Lewis is a busy, busy woman. As a budding enter-

tainer, she wears many hats and juggles many responsibilities —all with

poise , style, and class. She is down-to-earth, beautiful, and intelligent,

but most importantly she is a role-model and an inspirational figure to

women everywhere, especially the confident, voluptuous women who

embrace their curve appeal. Additionally, Ms. Lewis is absolutely de-

lightful, funny, and positive. CAC had the chance to chit-chat with her

about her journey, her present, and her future as a plus-size model, ac-

tress, and hostess , as well as her advise to women who want to travel

down her path. Check out the must read interview below.

Q: How exactly did you begin your journey to stardom?

A: It all started 11 years ago when I heard a commercial on the

radio that modeling scouts were coming to my town looking for

plus size models for a convention. Prior to that I didn’t know there

were opportunities for plus size women and had not been exposed

to the plus size industry. I went to the open call, got chosen, went

to the convention and spent lots of money and basically nothing

came out of it. Instead of getting discouraged I researched online

and found the plus size community through message boards,

though which I learned valuable information about the industry

and found opportunities for myself.

Q: How exactly are you and Plus Model Radio associated with Plus

Model Magazine?

A: My podcast is under the “PLUS Model” brand, and is an exten-

sion of the magazine’s franchise. I was already working with PLUS

Model Magazine as the Empowerment Editor prior to launching

the podcast and transitioned from a writer to a host. I am creator

and executive producer of PLUS Model Radio, however the editor

of PLUS Model Magazine, Madeline Jones, and I work very closely

together to make sure that both projects complement each other

with the selection of people we spotlight.

Q: What are your three favorite interviews on Plus Model Radio

and why?

A: I am in my third year of hosting the show so that’s a tough

one! I like interviewing top plus models like Emme, Crystal Renn,

and Whitney Thompson. Since the show has a large base of listen-

ers who are interested in plus size modeling, those interviews are

the ones that my audience gets the most excited about.

Q: What do you like about hosting events?

A: The thing I like most about hosting events is interacting with the peo-

ple. Greeting people and making them feel welcomed, taking pictures,

giving hugs and shaking hands…I love it all.

Q: What is your main goal for 2011?

A: My main goal in 2011 is to take my career to the next level, many

things I’m doing I publically post on my website and social networks, but

many things I can’t reveal just yet. I am 110% committed and focused.

At the end of every year I write a “year in review” so I can see my pro-

gress and try to do better each year.

Q: What would you like to see/experience when you come to Atlanta to

host the Rock the Runway Event?

A: I love Atlanta, I wish I could visit the city more often! I would like to

see Rock the Runway be a successful and well attended event (which I

am positive it will be), I want to meet and network with as many new

people and I can, and eat well!

Q: Favorite pastimes?

A: I enjoy working because I get to do what I love to do whether it be

acting, modeling, hosting, etc. but when I’m not working I enjoy cooking,

socializing, and of course shopping!

Q: What makes you happy?

A: Inspiring others to love the skin they’re in!

Page 17: Curve Appeal Culture Newsletter April/May 2011

Curve Appeal Culture | Premiere Issue | April/May 2011 | 17

Q: What is your opinion of the current condition of the Full-figured community?

A: I think the current condition of the full figured community it definitely on a upward swing, plus size models are getting more popular and

more mainstream opportunities, more plus size actors and actress are being seen on television, I think groups like Curve Appeal are awesome

that are inspiring plus size women to embrace themselves. More mainstream plus size clothing companies are becoming active in the com-

munity and events. Although the full figured community is far from perfect, I would like to see more diversity celebrated in the industry, I

definitely think we are moving in a positive direction.

Q: Do you have any upcoming television appearances and community service activities?

A: I was a cast member on season one of BET’s Hell Date which is still in reruns. I’m heavily involved with community service being the presi-

dent of a non –profit organization and the spokesperson for another, so I do monthly community service activities, but the biggest thing com-

ing up is Love Your Body Day coming in October.

Q: Anything you are tired of seeing/hearing in the plus industry?

A: I don’t like when people or companies don’t do their research about

who they are supporting. There are a lot of people in the community

doing positive things, but there are a lot of scam artist and unprofessional

people as well. The majority of our daily interactions in the community is

through the internet, so it’s easy to fool people with flashy websites and

high numbers on their social networking page. But you should do your

research before you work with anybody, rather it be a company, pro-

moter, or model. The easiest thing to do is a Google search, but on top of

that you should get referrals from legitimate people within the industry.

Q: What current projects you are working on? A: I am the president of the Hollywood chapter of the National Organiza-tion through which I produce Love Your Body Day, which is set for Oct. 22, 2011in West Hollywood. I’m also the spokesperson for the Binge Eat-ing Disorder Association. I host PLUS Model Radio, which is the #1 pod-cast for plus size women! I am the Ashley Stewart Coast to Coast Curves Model Search Spokesperson and will be doing more with them in the near future. I have an e-book coming out and I’m also about to start rais-ing funds to produce a feature film, which I am very excited about! In addition to that more acting and modeling gigs in the works and I will

still be hosting events and making personal appearances throughout the

country, you can always visit my website for the latest news, my sched-

ule, and upcoming projects.

Q: How can fans support and follow you?

A: Visit my website at www.cheneselewis.com and sign up for my news-

letter.

minique, a Fort

menting in Make-Up and trying to create

new hair styles. She has always had this

driving force to be at the top of her

game, making sure her styles mimicked

or exceeded those she considered mas-

ters in her field. Through much trial and

error Shanai has become a Master at her

craft as she continues to expand her

knowledge to stay abreast with the lat-

est techniques , as well as to stay on top

as a competitive entity.

Shanai Dominique has styled along

side of the best in the industry. After

aggressively following her passion for the

beauty industry, relocating her self and

family to Atlanta, GA, and surviving as a

Sole Proprietor as a Licensed Master

Cosmetologist for 7yrs, Shanai Domi-

nique was ready to take that next leap of

Faith and create the S.D. LUXURI brand,

by legalizing and trademarking her com-

pany S.D. LUXURI LLC.

LUXURI LLC. CONCIERGE EXTENSION SER-

VICES was born.

minique realized that the world of pro-

fessional hair weaves was anything but

excellent, so she created a method that

she teaches to other Extension Special-

ist and the method that the S.D. LUXURI

come 100% of the time.

tele, The Lady Entrepreneur, Stay at

Private Salon Experience in the comfort

of our own home. Without the feeling

of running a ghetto fab operation. Sha-

nai figured it out through her Core be-

liefs of doing everything in Excellence

Have you ever found yourself asking the question why do bad things happen to good people? Better yet, have you

found yourself asking, "God why Me"? Or maybe even, "What did I do to deserve this"? With the recent passing of a

very loving aunt, I found myself asking the same question. I asked God, "Why are you taking me through this and why

are you allowing my family to endure such great pain by taking our loved one"? But once I calmed myself down and I

thought about it...I was like, "Why not me"? What makes me so different from anyone else"? "Why should I be ex-

empt from trials and tribulations"?

When we are in the midst of our storm, we hardly ever think about the bad things being a part of God’s plan. Our

trials and tribulations are there to help us grow in faith and learn to trust that God will bring us out. It’s also a test.

God wants to see how we handle certain situations. For instance, think about Job who endured great pain and suffer-

ing but never turned away from God. Even when he had nothing, he knew he still had God and that no matter what,

God would never leave his side. After Job’s test, God blessed him with even more than he had before, because Job

stood strong in his faith.

Next time you are going through a rough situation, just remember that no matter how bad it is, it could have been

even worst Yes, you may have had a terrible day at work; however, you should consider that some people don’t even

have jobs to go to. Maybe the kids have gotten on your last nerves this morning, but guess what-- there are people

who are unable to have children. Gas may be $3.50 a gallon or more, but guess what--at least you have a vehicle to

put it in. We are blessed beyond belief through the good and the bad; therefore, thank God for life, health and

strength. Our trials and tribulations are tests. Allow your test to become a TESTimony and use it to encourage your-

self as well as someone else. I just did!

Be blessed!
