Post doctor fellowships:
1- Post doctor fellowship at Spain from November, 1, 2000 to July, 30, 2001 at institute of
Inorganic Chemistry, Barcelona, Spain. The main topic of the plane of research is to prepare Fe(II)
complexes of 2,6-bis(ethylthiomethyl)pyridine, 2,6-bis(tert-butylthiomethyl)pyridine, 2,6-bis(tert-
butylaminomethyl) pyridine, 2,6-bis(benzoxazol-2-yl)pyridine and bis(pyrid-2-ylmethyl)amine. Also,
the Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) complexes of the previous ligands are prepared. These complexes
are under study as polymerization catalysts. In prenciple the ferrous copmplexes shall be more
promising, according to previously reported data, but the other complexes will not be discarded. Four
single crystals suitable for X-ray analysis were also prepared and their spectra were resolved and give
promising results. Those are the Ni and Zn complexes of 2,6-bis(tert-butylthiomethyl)pyridine and
Co and Zn complexes of 2,6-bis (tert-butylaminomethyl)pyridine.
The second goal of this trip is to prepare a single crystal supramolecule of 2,6-dimethyl-
pyridine N-oxide in a strip form. The crystal structure is solved and gives a promising structure. This
work is now under preparation for publication.
2. Alexander von Homboldt fellow from 1-12-2004 to 30-11-2005 , Faculty of Science, Chemistry
Department, Konstanz University, Germany. The main topic of the research program is to prepare
new carbene complexes of Cr and W. The reactivity of these carbene complexes with different
electron donating or withdrawing groups is also checked. Synthesis of organic compounds from these
carbene complexes is also tested. The complexes are characterized using elemental analyses, IR,
mass, 1H and 13C NMR and X-ray spectroscopy.
3. Alexander von Homboldt fellow from 1-7-2010 to 30-9-2010 , Biotechnology Department, Wildau
University, Germany. In this project, some antibiotic drugs in the hydrochloride form were chosen to
study their properties from the analytical point view. The purpose of this investigation was directed to
propose sensitive, accurate and reproducible analytical and electroanalytical methods of analysis that
can be applied to determine important the drugs under investigation in pure and pharmaceutical
preparations. For this purpose the work deals with the use of both ISEs (SPCPEs, CPE,
30
PVC, caoted wire and coated grafite) and electrochemical techniques (cyclic voltametry, differential
pulse voltametry, amperometry, etc) in the determination of the suggested drugs in pharmaceutical
preparations.

Principle Investigator: Denmark.
The chemistry lab at Chemical Environmental Hazard Mitigation Center (CEHM) at cairo
University is one of the most important labs at Egypt for air, soil and water pollution analyses. It is
responsible for the analyses of:
1- SO2 gas as sulphate using Ion-chromatography (IC).
2- NO2 gas as nitrite using Ion-chromatography (IC).
3- Total suspended particles (TSP) analyses.
4- Dust Fall analyses.
5- Passive samples [SO2 gas (as sulphate) and NO2 gas (as nitrite)] using Ion-chromatography.
6- Soot analyses using reflectometer.
The lab also did a Water pollution analyses like BOD, COD, temperature, …etc and heavy
metal measurements using Inductive Coupled Plasma instrument (ICP). Gas chromatography is also
used for measuring air pollutants.
