this capacity I co-ordinated the funding of more than 50 national research projects in the

methodology of the social sciences. I was also Editor of the HSRC Series in Methodology in
which 40 titles were published between 1984 and 1998. I was chairman of the Research Ethics
Committee of the HSRC. In this capacity I was responsible for the drafting of the HSRC Research
Code.
