Assignments and Assessments
• Social Studies/Science: Tests, quizzes, and projects are a valuable way for us to assess students’ mastery of concepts covered in class. Science and Social Studies assessments are worth 45%, homework is worth 5%, and in-class projects are worth 50%.
• Language Arts: Tests, quizzes, and projects will account for 20% of the overall grade. Homework will be 20%, and the remaining 60% will be for classwork.
• Math: Classwork is worth 50% of the overall grade. This includes practice sets, center activities, and completion of work in the Singapore textbook. Tests are worth 30%, and homework is worth 20%.
If students wish to make-up a low grade on an assignment or assessment they must approach the teacher themselves to request a retake. The final grade will be an average of the 2 grades but will not be higher than 80%.

Homework
An effective homework program is student managed, provides daily feedback, reinforces success, and provides opportunities for parent involvement. Homework is assigned to all students on a regular basis and is considered important for reinforcing and extending concepts and skills taught during the academic day and for developing good independent study habits. Because of differences in students’ learning styles, it is difficult to state the exact amount of time that a student will spend on homework.
• All students are expected to complete 20 minutes of reading per night (5 nights a week) in addition to the following:• Math homework• Additional assignments throughout the year
• Late work may be turned in for a 10% penalty. Late work will not be accepted past two days after it is due. Extenuating circumstances leading to late work will be addressed at the discretion of the individual teacher.
• Please notify us ahead of time if you plan on missing school. Please also see the parent handbook regarding excused and unexcused absences.

• Students should use the provided school binder and planners.
• Binders will include a student's planner, checkbook, homework, and current leadership information including mission statements, WIGs, and scoreboards

Classroom Management System
Our goals in 3rd grade are to build independent first-time listeners who use the 7 Habits to be strong leaders.• Checkbooks provide students the opportunity to earn “money"
based on their ability to meet/exceed expectations.• Class and Personal Mission statements are referred to regularly
to see if we are living every day the way we have set out to.• We use a cadence of accountability to show students they are
partners in their behavior management and can have a say in rewards, celebrations and consequences.

Leader in Me School
The Leader in Me:
• Is a process of changing a ‘good’ school culture to a ‘great’ school culture.
• It will involve a common, school wide language.
• By infusing, weaving, and integrating this language into an already strong curriculum, the curriculum will become even stronger.
• By infusing this new language into already strong instructional practices, those practices will become stronger.
• Integrating this language into organizational structures (professional learning, communities, building leadership team, etc.) will strengthen them.
“The Leader in Me process helps develop the essential life skills and
characteristics students need in order to thrive in the 21st century.”
-Stephen Covey
