No maintenance is required because all electrical sensing elements are sealed in a homogeneous casting of cycloaliphatic epoxy and the conductor clamp is cast in 356-T6 aluminum with stainless steel bolts. The swing link style conductor clamp is reversible. The small groove has a conductor range of .19 inches through .69 inches and the large groove .69 inches through 1.16 inches. Overall, conductors from #6 AWG to 954 MCM can be accommodated. Recommended primary bolt torque equals 28 ft-lbs. A single 3/4” –10 bolt- hole in the base of the sensor is provided for mounting purposes. The sensor ground connection should be completed to ground before attaching the primary conductor to the sensor. “H1” side of the sensor should be toward source of power. If the sensor is installed on a side arm insulator configuration, it is recommended that the sensor be in a non-tensioned lead. This sensor is not intended for dead-end use. The sensor output leads do not require short-circuiting when installing or removing a burden. The sensor is provided with 50’ long #18 AWG color- coded output leads for installation. If the installation requires longer leads, the leads should be twisted and shielded, and be #18 AWG minimum. Line post insulator configuration-3/4” tapped mounting hole in base forsensor mounting onto cross arms orinsulator brackets
No line cutting or primary taps- Lay-inprimary conductor groove and swing-linkprimary clamp allows installation withoutline cutting or primary taps, and can beinstalled without customer interruptions.
No dead ending- Sensor installationdoes limit primary conductor strength, orelectrical rating.
Fault level current measurements-Linear output voltages proportional tocurrent flow in the primary conductor upto 30 kA rms, without saturation effects.
Accurate voltage measurements-Shielded, non-inductive resistive dividerprovides linear output voltagesproportional to primary voltage to ground
over temperature, aging proximity effect,or weather conditions.
Swing-link primary conductor clamp-Reversible swing-link, range-taking clampallows installation without removal ofprimary hardware. Anodized 356-T6 castaluminum clamp will accept conductorsizes from #6 AWG to 954 MCM.
Reliable dielectric system- Single, homogeneous insulation system ofCycloaliphatic Epoxy provides improveddielectric control and long term UVresistant and track-resistant performance.
Single pour, completely encapsulateddesign- Seals internal componentsagainst moisture entry and degradation.Improves mechanical strength andminimizes maintenance needs.
Permanent markings- Molded intosurface nameplate and “H1” primary
polarity marking molded into surface ofthe sensor.
Inherently safe outputs- Low voltageAC outputs can be open-circuited, orshorted without damage, and sensor isdesigned to keep high voltages frombeing impressed onto secondary leads.
Partial Discharge tested- In addition tothe standard tests required on eachsensor, every PBI sensor is tested forpartial discharge up to 125% of maximumoperating voltage to insure that theinsulation system meets the stringent PBIspecification (2 picocou-lombs or less at125% of maximum operating voltage). This ensures the sensor is a solid, void-free structure and ensures long, trouble-free life.
Certified test reports- A test cardidentifying ratio and phase accuracy isprovided with every serialized unit.
Current Sensor Performance RatioIp = K x EsiWhere: Ip = Primary Amperes
K = Conductor Diameter FormulaEsi = Secondary Output Voltage
For “100:1” Standard Ratio PerformanceK = (O.D. x 17.52) + 77.81
Where: O.D. = Primary conductor outside diameter in inches over bare conductor or over armor rod.
Current sensor has additive polarity and the output will have a nominal 90° laggingphase shift from primary current waveform.
VOLTAGE SENSOR PERFORMANCE RATIOThe voltage sensor uses a highly reliable precision, non-conductive, resistive
divider that provides a low voltage AC output signal proportional to primary line toground voltage. The resistive divider is internally connected to one of the clampinserts. The performance ratio of the voltage sensing, whether in the LSV voltagesensor, or LSCV current/voltage sensor is:
Ep = 10,000 x EsvThe voltage output waveform is in phase with the primary waveform.
