MEHM & RUTH TUNTHEIN YFC/FEBC- Thailand
Mehm & Ruth TunThein serve with Youth For
Christ (YFC) & Far East Broadcasting Company
(FEBC) in Southeast Asia. Mehm broadcasts a
Gospel program in the Mon language (one of
the unreached people groups in the 10/40 Win-
dow) 60 minutes a day, 7 days a week through
FEBC. Ruth supports Mehm’s work as his ad-
ministrative assistant and also coordinates all
the English teaching ministries connected with
FEBC Mon Ministry. Together, they also provide pastoral care to Mon & other eth-
nic refugees and migrant workers from nearby countries. They regularly visit men’s
and women’s prisons and are “on call” for crisis ministry as needed (tsunami, cy-
clone, floods, deaths, etc.).
Last month while Ruth was preparing to conduct two English camps in a nearby
country, she noticed that her left eye was blurry. After dismissing the idea of dirty
glasses or sweat in her eye and from past experience, she concluded that she
needed further examination from an eye doctor. Her quick action led to the diag-
nosis that she did not have any detachments in her retina but a dislocated lens.
The treatment required surgery to remove the errant lens and for the doctor to fit
new lens and suture it so it does not come lose again.
On May 5th, Ruth had surgery to remove and replace the displaced lens in her left
eye. She is happy to report that the surgery was successful and that she is recover-
ing well! She had excellent medical care and is grateful that insurance covered
100% of the procedure. Please pray that Ruth would continue to regain full
strength in her left eye so that she can get back to work on ministry projects.
In the midst of this emergency, Mehm and a host of volunteers were able to run
the rest of the English camps for the Mon people. These pre-evangelistic camps
were intended to help the local church gain momentum and build bridges with the
youth in the community. They have already seen fruit from these camps. Pray that
the previous camps and future camps may bless each village and host church.
