President of India appoints Arvind Kejriwal as Chief Minister of Delhi

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee has revoked the Order issued on February 16, 2014 under article 239AB of the Constitution in relation to the National Capital Territory of Delhi, with effect from February 14, 2015.

The President has appointed Shri Arvind Kejriwal as the Chief Minister of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi with effect from the date he is sworn in.

The President on the advise of the Chief Minister has also appointed Shri Manish Sisodia, Shri Asim Ahmed Khan, Shri Sandeep Kumar, Shri Satyendar Jain, Shri Gopal Rai and Shri Jitender Singh Tomar as Ministers in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, with effect from the date(s) they are sworn in.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal allocates portfolios among ministers

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday allocated portfolios among the Ministers.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia will hold the charge of Eduction, Finance, Planning and Revenue while Satyendar Jain will look after Power, Health, Industries and PWD departments.

Gopal Rai has been given the responsibility of Transport, Labour and Employment departments and Sandeep Kumar will hold the portfolios of Women and Child Development, Social Welfare and SC and ST departments.

Food, Civil Supply and Environment and Forest departments are with Asim Ahmed Khan while Jitender Singh Tomar has been given the charge of Law and Justice, Home, and Tourism

All India Football Federation Awards: Sunil Chhetri and Bala Devi win Player of the Year Trophy

Sunil Chhetri from Secunderabad and Bala Devi from Manipur won the All India Football Federation (AIFF) 2014 Player of the Year - Male and Female trophy, respectively. 

31-year-old Chhetri, who is Captain for the Indian National Football Team, has been chosen as the winner for the 'AIFF 2014 Player of the Year' award on the basis of voting done by the Coaches from I-League Clubs

.As of now, Chhetri has been named AIFF Player of the Year four times in 2007, 2011, 2013 and 2014.

While Chhetri will be presented a prize of Rs 2 lakh, Devi would be presented Rs 1 lakh, besides a Trophy, each.

With this, Chhetri also broke the record of IM Vijayan, who won the award for a total of three times.  Vijayan had won it in 1992, 1997 and 2000.

BrahMos missile successfully test-fired from INS Kolkata

India on 14 February 2015 successfully test-fired a BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from Indian Navy's latest destroyer INS Kolkata.

BrahMos is a missile with a range of 290 kilometers and can carry a conventional warhead of up to 300 kilograms.

It has a top speed of Mach 2.8, which is three times faster than the US subsonic Tomahawk cruise missile.

This speed makes BrahMos one of the fastest cruise missiles in the world. It can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft and land.

Prakash and Akansha named best athlete in 35th National Games

Swimming sensations Sajan Prakash and Akanksha Vora were declared the best athletes as curtains were drawn to the 35th National Games with a colourful closing ceremony, here on Saturday. 

Prakash was adjudged the best male athlete of the Games for winning an astonishing six gold and three silver medals with four new meet records.

Akanksha, who was not present at Saturday's ceremony, was declared the best female athlete for her feat of five gold medals and a silver.

World Growth Chart released by Brookings Institution.

The Brookings Institution's 2014 Global Metro Monitor Map measures and compares growth patterns in the world's 300 largest metro economies has positioned Delhi at 18th place, Kolkata at 32, Mumbai at 52, Chennai at 57, Hyderabad at 76 and Bengaluru at 87.

.Macau ranks first in the list. China has 11 cities in the Top 20, and four in the Top 10. Turkey has four in the Top 10, including Izmir, Istanbul, and Bursa at two, three and four.

World Growth Chart – Contd.

World Growth Chart is measured by combining an economic performance index, employment and GDP per capita growth.

The growth patterns of the world's 300 largest metro economies are compared in the report. They are compared on two key economic indicators- annualized growth rate of real GDP per capita and annualized growth rate of employment.

According to report, these indicators are combined into an economic performance index as they reveal the importance that people and policymakers attach to achieve rising incomes and standards of living and generating widespread labour market opportunity

The purpose of the Metropolitan Policy Program at Brookings is to provide the decision-makers with cutting-edge research and policy ideas for improving the health and prosperity of metropolitan areas.

Parle Products launched Litter Free Campaign nationwide

Parle Products has launched a Litter Free Campaign nationwide in order to encourage the customers to "Show Garbage Its Place".

It has rolled out three advertising films for nationwide litter free campaign. The name of these films are Corporate Boss, Class Monitor, Shopping Mall which conveyed the message of cleanliness.

Shalini Desai, Deputy marketing manager, Parle Products said in statement that they intend to disseminate a positive message with the Parle Litter free Campaign and encourage each citizen to make a conscious efforts to keep their environment neat and clean.

She further says that they are happy to extend their efforts to the nation in line with the "Swaccha Bharat Abhiyan" which was launched by Indian PM Narendra Modi.

EC drive to link electoral rolls with Aadhaar from March 1

The Election Commission of India will conduct Electoral Roll Purification and Authentication Drive (ERPAD) by linking electoral rolls with Aadhaar cards (numbers) from March 1 to August 15 this year, Chief Election Commissioner H.S. Brahma stated.

Mr. Brahma said adding that the exercise would largely help find out duplicate or multiple entries of voters in rolls and fake voter cards

First manufacturing plant of American multinational General Electric inaugurated by Modi

The new facility will manufacture a range of diversified products for sectors such as energy, aviation, oil as well as gas transportation. Including phase II, GE will have a total investment of $200 million in India, and it will also explore possibility to invest in the railway sector.

In the first phase of operations, the Chakan facility is focused on products and solutions for the power generation, oil as well as gas and transportation industries.

In the second phase. the unit will include manufacturing capability for new generation aviation engine components and sub assembly for the latest rail locomotives and diesel engines.

Spread over 68 acres, the new facility will generate employment for 1500 people and many local suppliers.

Fifty per cent of the products manufactured from this unit will be exported to other GE global sites, the company said. This is GE’s most advanced facilities bringing together automation, the industrial internet and 3D printing.
