My Topic will be about How Data empowers Smart Cities. We all want our cities to be more sustainable, prosperous and improve our residents’ quality of lives. To do that, we need to make our cities smarter, creating intelligent and efficient solutions to support sustainable city growth and provide better services to our residents. At Western Digital, we believe Data Technology is a critical pillar to help us infuse intelligence throughout our civic systems. However, when cities start down the path to smart city, they often find the path blocked lacking sufficient and usable data. Most of the cases the data is spread-out, locked in isolated storage islands by different departments and entities. I would like to talk about Data technologies and best practices on how to first collect and consolidate various data, then how to properly prepare data into useable data lake, which can be analyzed, ready for intelligence extraction, and serve the purpose of various smart city initiatives. Western Digital as the world’s largest storage company, with half of the worlds data stored on its devices, has over the years transformed from a Storage Device to a Data Technology Company. We would like to share our point of view on How Data can Empower Smart Cities.
