1 Cundletown Public School “The Caring School” High St Cundletown NSW 2430 T6553 9315 F 6553 9055 email: [email protected] Cundletown Public School Monday 11 December 2017 Term 4 Week 10 We have reached week ten and as the term approaches an end we have many important events sll to occur. However, before we move onto what is coming this week I would like to reflect on the elecon of our student leaders for 2018. This was definitely an absolute highlight of 2017. We had 34 students who elected to run for a leadership posion. All 34 students presented an elecon speech to the whole school, staff and parents on Thursday morning. These speeches and the students’ presence on stage was outstanding. They were indeed a representaon of all we look for in future leaders. In fact last Thursday’s presentaons were the best that I have seen in over 30 years of teaching. Over the past three years all our class programs K-6 have focussed on promong confidence in students’ ability to speak in front of peers and audiences, as part of Strategic Direcon Three—Leadership. We have explicitly planned for the integraon of the English strand, Talking and Listening as an integral part of all learning programs, across all KLAs. It was so good to see the significant impact that this iniave has had on our year five students. My sincere congratulaons to each and every student. Although we can only elect 14 school leaders, we have another 24 students in 2018’s years six who will be great leaders in our school. What a fabulous cohort of students. Now for some other news to celebrate. I would like to announce our new Principal commencing in 2018. Mr Nigel Sherrard has been appointed to this posion. Mr Sherrard is currently Principal of Tinonee PS. As a school staff, we are really excited to welcome Nigel to our school and we are looking forward to working with him as he leads our school into the future. I believe that he will be an inspiraonal leader who will have a very posive impact on what is already a great school. We are all looking forward to our Presentaon Day on Tuesday. Students have been pracsing hard and all the stage choirs are sounding amazing. Reports will go home on Wednesday. Thursday will involve a great deal of moving of classrooms in preparaon for 2018. We have employed four casual teachers to assist us with this movement. Our stage three students are excited about the year six farewell, which is on Wednesday evening. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our commiee of students and parents who are working hard to make this evening a huge success. I would also like to thank Tracy Tomlins and Sam Godwin for their hard work in organising this important event. Everyone’s contribuon is greatly appreciated. Our 2018-2020 School Plan is now completed and ready for publicaon. Any parent who would like a copy of this plan to read, may collect one from the front office from Thursday onwards. Alternavely, you may contact the office by phone or through an email or note and we will send a copy home with your child. This plan will inform all that we undertake over the next three years as a collaborave team and will impact all stakeholders—parents, students and staff. We will hold another parent informaon session on this early in term one 2018. I would like to conclude this newsleer by thanking my staff for all their hard work and support throughout 2018. I have never had the privilege to work with such a dedicated and inspiring group of people. I would like to thank all our parents, carers and volunteers for their hard work as supporters and partners in their children’s educaon. Finally let me thank all of our wonderful students for their hard work and engagement in their learning throughout the year. We definitely have the very best students in Taree. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year. Jenny Cohen Relieving Principal
