Here you can see the truly Ukrainian

women’s clothes of our place:a long blouse

decorated with rich embroidery and the

skirt called “dymka”.It was wide and

usually it had a silk ribbon at the bottom.

Ukrainian farmers had to work a lot at

home and in the fields,

so women always wore an apron.

Even in the smart costume there was an apron

with decorations.

Embroidery was the most common way for decorating the clothes as it was cheap. Girls and women spent

the winter time making their clothes special with all the talent and

creativity they could apply to the process.

Another important item of everyday and holiday usage was a towel. When a girl

was proposed to marry a young man she presented him with a towel with

embroidery she made herself. All stages of life – from marriage to the burial ceremony were accompanied with a

decorated towel.

Nevertheless our traditional clothes is still popular. Most often we wear it at

the parties but shirts and even T-shirts and dresses decorated with traditional embroidery are popular among young

and old.
