IMPORTANCE OF VEGETABLES

! Vegetables are inexpensive sources of minerals, vitamins, fibers and proteins

Engle (1999) defined Indigenous Vegetables
v Refer to species or originating in a particular region or environment
v May also include naturalized plant species or varieties that have evolved from materials introduced to the region from another geographical area over a long period of time v Exclude product of scientific improvement
Other scientists prefer to use the term Traditional Vegetables
Altoveros (2000) refers to the Traditional Vegetables as
